Me likey rum

Are there any companies that do rum tours where they drive you to the various rum producers on the island? If not, any rum tours better than the others in case we decide to rent a car?

I just recently took the Mount Gay Rum Tour when my brother was over visiting and it was very good so I would recommend that one. There is also one in St. Phillip at Four Square but after trying to call them on numerous occassions and getting no answer I gave up with them so Mount Gay would be my recommendation - I think they also throw in transportation and a small extra charge!

As scary mentioned, Mount Gay provides a rum tour. And, I've heard great things about it from visitors.

St. Nicholas Abbey, a former sugar plantation, produces rum and provides samples at the conclusion of the plantation house tour and short film presentation. While St. Nicholas Abbey is not a tour about rum production. It's interesting enough, and you'll get a nice little treat at the end and the opportunity to purchase the rum.

Whatever you choose, enjoy your stay in Bim!

I too love the St Nicholas Abbey tour great look back through the history of life in Barbados and great rum samples at the tour end. I believe the house is the last remaining Jacobean house in the Caribbean. Take a look at the website.

If we don't rent a car (we are still trying to do a cost-benefit analysis to determine if it's worth it), can anyone recommend a tour or taxi service that will do a customized tour so that we can select a few rum tours and a handful of other sites that we want to see?

Greetings Sunboy,

Please check your private message area. I sent you the name number of a licensed tour operator and taxi driver who can customize a tour to your interests and budget. You may want, for instance, to see a few natural wonders along the north and east coast in the morning, visit a good rum shop for lunch, see St. Nicholas Abbey, then finish up at Mount Gay. Just tell him what you want and he will provide a price. This is just one of the many options available to you.

Whatever you choose, enjoy your stay in Bim.

Mount Gay is just a stone's throw from Malibu, so you can do both of those in one afternoon. Foursquare is much further east in St Philip, but is probably the most interesting of the three tours.

I've done the Mount Gay tour. We did the Cocktail one, which was great fun if it's still available - used to run once a week. Also visited Four Square - much less commercialised than Mount Gay. There was a self-guided tour and you could finish at their small bar. I hope to go back to Four Square next time I'm in Barbados.

Barbados is lucky enough to actually have 2 Jacobean houses of the 3 still standing in the western hemisphere. St Nicholas Abbey which has been lovlingly restored back to even better than its former glory. A magical place to visit and take in the atmosphere on a by gone era. An absolute must on your touring calendar of Barbados.

The other Jacobean house is Drax Hall in St George this is still owned by The Drax family and is ripe for restoration I really hope its done as we need to save all the historic buildings on the island .

BB,

This sounds like a great day in Barbados. Can you PM the taxis you've recommended to me, too?

Thanks!
