Rainy season in Barbados

Hi guys,

My family and I are looking to holiday in Barbados in mid to late July (maybe from 14 to 28 July), but we're unsure if it would be too late to go because the heavier rain would have already started in Barbados by then. I have looked at several rainfall charts and the volume of rain seems quite high. We don't want to spend all of our time sheltering from the elements!

Can anyone from Barbados or the Caribbean offer any advice? Is it still worth going to Barbados in July?

At the moment, according to the BBC and other news/weather outlets, it has been raining there the whole week already.

Eagerly awaiting anyone's response

Daniel

Hi Daniel,

Welcome to the forum!!!

There have been quite a few weather related questions , similar to yours lately.......if you put weather, or rainfall in the search box, you will get a lot of information.

Check back over the last few days, Canby posted several sites all weather related that you could check out.

I have never been in July, but would go in a heartbeat.....I am going at the beginning of June for 1 week, and will take whatever happens weather wise!! Even if it rains it will be hot and beautiful.

Take a look at the web-cam at Mullins beach shows some shots from the daytime yesterday and then take a look later for today's weather.

if you do decide to book I find that the best website to check from the UK is the following:-

…weather.com/weather/10day-Bridgetown-BBXX00…

It gives a 10day weather forcast and whilst for example this week it says scattered showers. It shows you the chance of rain eg 30% etc. Also if you look at the days just passed it shows you an hour by hour guide of what the weather was on that day.

I agree though have been during the rainy season for last two years it rarely spoils the day.

The weather at the moment it so hot during the day and doesn't cool down much at night. Even in July we can get night rain and early morning rain and then fine for the rest of the time. Don't let the weather put you off the temperature will be about 31-32c!!!

Hi everyone,

Thanks for the welcome and the responses! They were very helpful, and have put the majority of my family at ease with the Bajan July weather.

There are still some doubts though about what the weather may be like this year. After hurricane Tomas late last year giving the island a bit of a bruising, and the predicted increase in bad weather and hurrican activity forecast for this year (…wikipedia.org/wiki/2011_Atlantic_hurricane_…), do you all think it is likely that Barbados may get a slightly higher than average rainfall this July?

(as far as I've read, I know hurricanes shouldn't be a problem as they usually occur later around Sep-Nov time).

Personally, I don't mind that it may rain maybe 3 whole days at worst - I'm sure tropical rain will be much appreciated when it temp actually feels more like the mid to high 30s.

No one without exception can give an accurate prediction of the weather and even less so for the probabilities of when a hurricane can develop. If you are able to do so then please advise NOAA, they will be glad to know about it.

So in response to your question "do you all think it is likely that Barbados may get a slightly higher than average rainfall this July?"

Who knows? You are asking a question to which there is no valid, accurate answer....only a guess and even then. So far the dry season has been extremely wet. What will the rainy season be like?

The best advice is go and enjoy and what ever will be will be.

I'd be more concerned about Icelandic Ashes.

Thanks to everyone for all the great advise! In the end we all decided to go to Kefalonia this year, but we'll probably keep Barbados open as an option for next year, now we're a lot more informed about staying in Barbados.

Thanks again

Daniel
