Cheap eats st lawrence gap

Hello

I will be making my first visit to Island in 2 weeks time!

I have been researching restaurant prices and they all seem some what pricey :S

We are travelling as a group and are worried as to how much to budget.

We are looking to eat out for lunch and dinner and want to stick to the local caribbean resturants. Shoe string budget!

Can anyone recommend any tasty bajan eats in the Gap area and prices? we arent into amrican, mexican, italian or pub grub

Much appreciated

You could try the deli counter in Dover Market for cheap take away local food. Catch the local bus to Oistins for fish etc at the stalls - Friday & Saturday most popular but available other days/times. Street vendors in the Gap at night will be cheap. Also would suggest Pun de Grill and St Lawrence Grill plus the Chinese above it to sit down or take away.

Just put "inexpensive restaurants" in the search box and you'll find many references to places, even in the Gap.

Also try Scotty's for lunch, they do a good mixture of local hot food at reasonable prices - a decent breakfast can be had at Happy days in the Chattel village which is facing Southern Palms...you cannot miss this because it is quite a large place and very pink !

Be sure you schedule Oistons fish fry on at least one of your Friday nights. Not in the gap but if it's local food you're after then it's a must do. Only about a 5-10 min bus ride from the gap heading south.

I second Scotties too - excellent local food for between US $5-10 depending on what you have and you won't need anything else for the day!

Cools Bar right on Dover Beach also does excellent burgers and fish and is very reasonable. And as someone else mentioned, Happy Days is really inexpensive for breakfast and lunch.

Oistins on a Friday night is good fun but there is food available there most days and evenings and it's good local fare.

Another option for a reasonable local meal is Leroy's Down Island Cooking. His food van is parked in the Gap at Divi Southwinds Monday to Friday at approximately 2:00pm until 3:30pm. Good food, cooked fresh every morning for $20 Bds or $10US. He will also cater on request.
