Hotels in Barbados

We are taking a family vacation next summer and were considering Barbados. We have two kids (ages 13 and 8) and we heard food is expensive in the Caribbean. Do you know of any hotels in Barbados that are 3 star+ that do not rip you off on food. I read that some hotels charge $30 per person for the buffet and that is way over our budget. Also, you know of hotels that have a nice beach with kayaking or windsurfing on site? We are not looking at little family owned villas.

Thanks,

David

I think it would help to know the budget you're looking at and summer next year is what months in particular?

The reason for the months is the end of July and early August is "Cropover" similar to Mardi Gras and it's usually a slightly more expensive period.

Ripped off? If you go all inclusive then "almost everything" is usually included except certain wines. So it's important to know what all inclusive means to that particular hotel.

It's great that you're planning this far in advance but you probably won't get much in pricing for next year yet. Like I said in your other post take a look at hotels down the side of the page and see if anything suits you. Also a number of airlines from the UK and US have deals with hotels that include flights and this might be something you want to look at in terms of pricing this year. That will give you a good idea of what to expect in costs.

Buffets in Barbados normally cost around $25-$30 USD minimum so there is nothing odd about that. Most are $35 USD and above...

Butterfly Beach is a nice 3* you could look into.

We are booked at Butterfly Beach Hotel for this summer (End of August) and got a good deal. Breakfast was included in our deal as well, so maybe they will have some sort of package like that for next summer?

For non AI, we were thinking $200/night or less. For AI, less than $350/night. Also, we were looking at June or July of next summer. By the way, airfare doesn't matter because this trip will be on miles.

Have a look at Coral Mist/Blue Orchids and also at Bougainvillea for units which would accommodate you all. They have self catering facilities which will keep your food costs down but also have hotel facilities and are on the beach. You could try Southern Palms too - not self catering but very close to all sorts of dining options. In June/July time you can get some good deals as it isn't peak season in Barbados.

Should have added that costs will rise into late July and august because of Crop Over

I agree with Almatt about where you should look. Anything that offers kitchen facilities will be helpful. We typically purchase breakfast and lunch items at the Big B/or another Supercentre and that keeps our costs down. Then we eat out someplace at night to give us a break for cooking/dishes. Another place to check might be Coconut Court (south coast).

June and early July are great times. More humid but the weather is quite good, it's not busy and you should be able to find something within your price range.

The hotels recommended are close to good but inexpensive eating places, easy to walk to, you're on a beach with other beaches very closeby, just a few minutes walk. WE've found over the years with our children just the beach itself keeps them fully occupied.
