Where on the West Coast?

Hi all,

We're visiting Barbados for our holiday in a year or so, and fancy staying on the West Coast - we were thinking St James or St Michael.

Does anyone have any suggestions on which parish to stay in? The beaches are the main appeal, and we want an area where there is a bit of nightlife (bars, but they can probably be found in our resort/hotel..haven't decided where yet!) and shopping.

Thanks in advance!

Katie

You definitely need St. James, preferably in the Holetown and Sunset Crest area. Excellent shopping, lots of bars and restaurants littered all over and great beaches.

You're welcome.

Have a look at Mango Bay, the Sandpiper and Sunswept.

Hi Katie

You might also want to take a look at the hotels in the South Coast in the Christ Church area particularly near the St.Lawrence Gap which is well known for its bars and nightlife.

Hi a2z,

Thanks for this also. Can you tell me the main difference between the Christ Church area and the St James area? For example is there more shopping or restaurants in Christ Church? Less touristy would be good for us, as we can always travel to the tourist towns - but I'm liking the larger resorts in the Christ Church area (such as Bougainvillea in Maxwell)..

Thanks! :)

I would say both areas are about equal in terms of shopping, but St. James is more high-end. The St. James area is home to our 5* properties, while the Christ Church area is home to our 3-4* properties. The better restaurants are in St. James, IMHO. Christ Church is awash in bars, local spots for great meals etc and only a handful of top restaurants. Both areas are extremely touristy.

If you're tending to sway towards the South Coast, have a look at either: Accra Beach Resort, Southern Palms, Bougainvillea, Rostrevor, Ocean Two Resort & Residences or Coral Mist.

Coral Sands in Christ Church is a smaller hotel, only about 30 rooms, on an amazing beach and is within walking distance of the Gap for a wide variety of bars and restaurants. There are no other hotels that cause a lot of traffic on the beach there (Sandy Beach) so it may not feel too "touristy".
