48 hours on Barbados-What are the Must-See,Must-Do ?

This April , my wife and I have a 2 night layover in Barbados ,

enroute to a different final destination in the Caribbean.

We are booked at the Accra Beach Hotel and Spa.

To make best use of our limited time on the island ,

I am looking for lists of the :

Best What-To-See / What-To-Do in 48 hours ,

( restaurants , bars , beaches , sights )

to be able to say , we experienced a little of the island "flavor".

George K

For things to do in Barbados:

Visit Harrison's Cave

Visit Hunte's Gardens

Take a dive on the Atlantis Submarine

Visit the Barbados Wildlife Reserve

Visit St Nicholas Abbey and sample some of their legendary rum and tour the historic house

Take a Catamaran Cruise on Cool Runnings

Visit the Barbados Concorde Experience

Take a 4x4 Adventureland Island Tour

Visit Cherry Tree Hill for breath-taking views of the island

Visit Hackleton's Cliff for breath-taking views of the island

Visit St. John's Parish Church

Gun Hill Signal Station is also fantastic

Visit Oistins on a Friday night (If Friday is one of your days) around 19:00, have dinner at Pat's Place, the dishes are delightful.

If you're into history, visit Sunbury Great House, also a great place for having lunch

Visit Crane Beach, Foul Bay, Bottom Bay, Enterprise (Miami) Beach and your hotel is located on the amazing Rockley Beach.

Do take a look at www.totallybarbados.com where you will find a wealth of quality and up-to-date information on the island.

Hope this helps

That's BGI's standard reply to anyone, a lot of ideas. My question is, what are you interested in and how much touring and driving (are you renting a vehicle) do you want to do. For Harrison's Cave, Hunte's Gardens, Wildlife Reserve, St. Nicholas Abbey, Cherry Tree Hill, Hacketon's Cliff, St. John's Parish Church, Gun Hill Signal Station , and except for Miami Beach & Rockley Beach will require either spending your days driving or hiring a taxi.

Even though Barbados isn't a very large island, it does take time to visit some of those venues either because of traffic, or if you're driving, the lack of proper road signage.

You can check the left hand side of this page for 'things to do' and decide what sites interest you. Then I'm sure BGI will come back and give you detailed instructions on how to get there.

For restaurants. You're right at the beginning of the Boardwalk. a short stroll will bring you to 'Tapas' an excellent place for lunch or dinner. Across the street from your hotel is Quayside Plaza, where you will find 'Best of Barbados' shop, also a coffee shop, 'Chilli Moos' (ice cream), and 'Just Grillin'.

Another a very short walk the other way you'll find 'Champers Restaurant' that sits on a seaside cliff overlooking Rockley Beach. An excellent place for lunch or dinner.

48 Hours...as suggested take a look at Things To Do and one of the best ways to see what you decide on is to tour via taxi. They`ll take you where you want, you can tour the island, see quite a few things, probably enjoy lunch on the East Coast at a place like Atlantis or Roundhouse and then go out in the evening to a place like Tapas, Champers or Naru which are all within easy walking distance of your hotel.

You will then have enjoyed a slice of life in Barbados.

Here`s a link to a post with a list of recommended taxi drivers used by regulars to this site. One of them Taxicabby is regularly on here and had been very helpful.
