Best Beach - West Coast

Currently staying on the south coast and loving the amazing weather, pool beech etc! Looking to head up the west coast one day and sample a beech with less surf!

Looking for somewhere easy to get todos a morning with calm seas for swimming, and we could probably do with chair and parasol hire as the sun is very hot!

We were thinking paynes bay, sandy lane beech or Mullins bay? Any other suggestions? We will also go to Carlisle bay for a morning which is not to far from st Lawrence

I think Mullins Beach or Heywoods Beach (infront Port St. Charles) would be great for you. Either would be my preference for the best beaches on the West Coast.

Paynes Bay is great for calm water.

Don't use the first entrance.

Go to the second entrance on the left just past the closed hotel and casino on the right.

You will find clean change rooms and then proceed to the beach.

ask for JJ or Jc and they will provide you chairs and umbrella.

If you go to the first entrance opposite the Penicostal Church, you will pay top dollar for chairs and a umbrella & no change rooms.

I learnt the hard way 3 weeks ago and then for 3 weeks had a great time with JJ.

Totally agree with Wilkier.

I always sit in exactly the same spot on Paynes Bay. There is a nice little bar there too called Coconutz and the loos are spotlessly clean.

The water down that end always seem to be a little calmer and easier to get in and out of the water at that end of the beach.

You can also take a lovely walk (northwards) along to Sandy Lane beach.

I would try to avoid the main cruise ships days to visit Paynes Bay.

Ok great good advice guys. What is the best way to get there? Presume I can catch a bus st Lawrence gap but do need to change anywhere? What

Would taxi cost be?

Are these beaches worth the extra trip over Carlisle bay?

If you're going to Payne's Bay just hop in a Speighstown Bus and you'll be there in 35 minutes or so for just $2 BBD. The buses come every 30 minutes and you don't need to change anywhere. Just ask someone in the bus to ring the bell for you so you can alight at Payne's Bay. A taxi would be around $60 BBD.

I'd still go to Carlisle Bay as it's a great spot for snorkelling.

If you haven't been to the West coast yet then it is worth jumping on the bus to experience another part of the island.

Another nice beach to visit is Alleynes beach, a bit further up the west coast than Paynes Bay. Here you will find Ramshackles bar/restaurant where you can hire beds and sunshades and have a nice lunch of freshly caught fish at a very reasonable price. The water here is crystal clear and calm. There are usually lots of turtles very close to shore. There will be NO cruise ship passengers on this beach!

You would just stay on that same Speightstown bus but ask the driver to put you off at Alleynes beach.

Ramshackles on Alleynes beach charge $ 25 BBD for 2 sunbeds & a parasol.

They also have carparking across the road behind the lonestar carpark should you be arriving by car.
