Beachside, self-catering, west coast

Far from being new to Barbados - we have enjoyed the charms of this beautiful island many times - we could trawl through the holiday sites again for ideas on accomodation, or ask those who know.

So Bim fans, we are seeking a stand alone apartment, (not part of a complex), self catering on the west coast, ideally between or either side of Speightstown and Holetown. We have stayed at some nice places inland of Highway 1, but have to ask what experiences people have had of beachside apartments along this stretch - which ones might get the thumbs up for a grown family of four, and which ones, if any, are worth sidestepping.

Proximity to clubs and bars is not important, but a car parking space is.

Waking to the sound of hustle and bustle of local life is nice, but waking to the sound of the surf is desirable. A short walk to the beach may be expected, but we would consider private beach access!

Rental rates need to be "sensible" or the apartment really worth throwing my credit card at. As far as booking is concerned, we are thinking of two years away for this trip, during low season. So, ideas and thoughts welcomed. Thanks.

I'd look into Port St. Charles or St. Peter's Bay both in St. Peter. Either would fit your bill perfectly.

We've stayed at Jentilla a couple times. Located between Mullins Beach & Speightstown. It's a beautifully refurbished chattel house, on a quiet beach with Mullins Beach just a 2 minute walk away. We love it. https://www.facebook.com/Jentillia?ref=ts

We have stayed at many apartments/villas on the West Coast. Most recently our favouite is Coral Cove on Paynes Bay. Beautifully furnished and very spacious. They are straight on the beach so you can definitely hear the sea! Most have jacuzzis and one on the ground floor has it's own private plunge pool. Lovely staff - if you are interested, look on Home-Away. We love the freedom of this type of holiday - plenty of space, no set times for lunch/dinner - ability to eat at any restaurant we want or have a cook prepare it to eat in for the evening - and much more privacy than a hotel.

Have a look at this site which features villas on the west coast a short walk from the beach and also look at Palm Beach condos which are right on the beach at Holetown.
