Local, casual and fun......

I am looking for your favorite local, casual and fun lunch spots. We will be exploring the entire island for 8 days....different areas each day. We like to end up on a beach for a few hours in the afternoon as well. For a "taste" of what we like....Oistins sounds terrific!!!

At night we prefer to eat light at the condo.....but we would go out one night for a birthday dinner. Thinking casual and local, what would you suggest if we are staying in the south?

Thanks for your ideas!!

Fisherman's pub & Orange Street Grocer in Speightstown. Ramshackles - St James. Leroy's food van - Bougainvillea & Divi at lunchtimes. Mr Delicious on Miami Beach. Cutters for a picnic to take to Bottom Bay. These all serve local food at good prices. You can also buy Leroy's food and reheat in the evening. His fresh frozen juices are also very good.

On the West coast my favourite spot for lunch and an afternoon on the beach swimming with the turtles would be Ramshackles on Alleynes Beach. It is very laid back, great fresh fish is served and you can rent a bed and umbrella there too. You won't want to leave!

On the South Coast I would say Crystal waters and the Carib bar, especially on a Sunday. You can rent sunbeds there too and there is a great fun atmosphere.

A good casual and local option on the South Coast would be the Barbeque Barn at Chefette Rockley...opposite the Accra Beach Hotel & Spa. A relaxed atmosphere, you order at the counter then return minutes later to pick up your meals. Platters range from chicken, fish, pork and beef with local sides such as rice, macaroni pie etc. Desserts are cheesecake, chocolate cake and ice cream. It's a great experience.

We loved Island Plates in Speightstown. Chat with the owners, sit outside under the umbrella, walk into town. Very authentic older city with very few tourists. A true Bajan feel. Only serves breakfast and lunch.
