Beautiful, friendly Barbados - Trip report; 3/2-3/7

Hello all, I recently returned from a 5 night stay on the south coast of Barbados and I figured you would enjoy a trip report. I have posted a full trip report with pictures on my blog ( writeanothertravelingsong.blogspot.com/ ) but I will detail some highlights below.

Flight: American Airlines – Never again. I gave them the benefit of the doubt and regret it.

South coast beaches: My friend and I were a bit worried about rough water, but the south coast beaches were fine for us. The sand was beautiful; soft, white sand with hues of pink. I actually found it to be pinker than the sand in Bermuda.

We visited Enteprise Beach, Rockley Beach, Dover Beach, and Maxwell. Maxwell beach was absolutely beautiful and one of our favorites. Dover and Rockley were nice but a bit busy for our taste. Enterprise was my personal favorite. There was an area with small – medium waves (typical for the south coast) and a little bay area that was completely calm and flat.

Excursions: The only excursion we did was the Jammin’ catamaran and it is highly recommended. They kept the drinks flowing, the crew was great, and the west coast was lovely. The sand on the west coast was not as nice as the south though.

St. Lawrence Gap: We ate in the Gap twice. Once at Café Sol for lunch (one of the best burritos I have ever had!) and we also had dinner at Harlequin. There are lots of nice places in the Gap to eat but Harlequin seems to be one of the better values. The food was great as was the ambience. We were lucky enough to eat outside.

All in all we had a lovely trip. Barbados is a beautiful island and Bajans are extremely friendly. We won’t be returning anytime soon as there are more places I’d like to visit, but I would love to return one day in the future since we weren’t able to visit the East coast.

Two things I want to note:

1.) We traveled with a same sex couple and we had no problems at all. Everyone was friendly, courteous, and helpful to everyone in our group.

2.) We weren’t harassed on the beach by vendors/peddlers trying to sell things. We were only approached about two times the entire trip.

3.) We walked all over the place and took public transportation (in the morning, during the day, at night) and had no problems at all with safety.

Oh thank you, thank you, for giving such a positive report about your recent visit, at a time when so many scare mongerers on this forum seem hell bent on frightening new visitors away.

Yes, we know about the bad things, but the bad things are still so outweighed by the good things on this Island , we must not let the the people who seem to revel in constantly posting negatively, and almost campaign against visiting the Island, overcome the voice of the people who know and love Barbados for very good reasons. I'm so glad you enjoyed your time here.

Westiegal –

No problem. Hopefully it does not get buried due to all the negative reports.

Hopefully these reports don't deter future visitors because it was such a lovely, friendly island and seems to be quite safe for the most part. Crime can occur anywhere though; that’s just part of life. People are shot every day in NYC, Philly, LA, etc, but that does not stop me or anyone else from visiting those great cities.

Westiegal .

That was exactly my point on the mugging report yesterday . Its becoming tiresome . I cant believe the report into wearing a rolex went on for so long and also turned into full negative mode . Some people really do revel in doom and gloom .

They just aren’t a pleasurable airline to deal with. Prior to the trip I had read something that said about a third of their flights are delayed; that’s a bit intense. We decided to risk it because the flight with them was very well priced. It was only around $300.00, but you get what you pay for I guess.

The flight was delayed for a few hours, and for some time they didn’t even know when the flight would actually be arriving to the airport. Many of their employees seemed a bit incompetent as well, if you know what I mean. US Airways just bought American so hopefully they will be changing for the better.
