snorkelling

Hi, we are coming to Barbados for the first time next week! I've read about the boat trips that include snorkeling but wondered if there were any beaches that you would recommend for snorkeling. We are staying at Rockley/Accra but will be taking the buses and also hoping to hire a car, so it would be lovely to hear about anywhere round the island. Thanks

The beach right where you are staying is ok, Carlisle Bay heading towards Bridgetown is pretty good.

Paynes Bay is also apparently quite good as well.

I think Heywoods has great snorkeling on the north west coast. You can access the beach jyst after what used to be almond beach village then turn right on the beach in front of Port St Charles. The man made reef has a real array of colourful fish. It is also buoyed off so you are safe from motor boats and jetski's.

Thanks everyone. Nice that we can stay near the accommodation or take snorkel gear when we're near Holetown or Speightstown. Happy to receive any more suggestions!

We snorkelled today off a beach by The Colony Club. Nice reef with loads of colourful fish.
