Dinner at Sandpiper Hotel?

My parents are taking 7 of us to Barbados in 2 weeks time to celebrate their 50th anniversary, they have been to Barbados many times, but not for 10 years, they used to stay at The Sandpiper Hotel and although we are staying in a private villa this time, I wondered what the restaurant at Sandpiper might be like? I would like to book a special meal for us all as a thank you and thought if its any good this might be nice given their history with the hotel. If not where would be lovely, they have eaten at The Cliff a few times so maybe somewhere else. Thank you

Sandpiper is excellent and not a problem. Otherwise go to Cin Cin just down the road a bit.

Dining room at Sandpiper is very nice - and the bar is a charming spot for pre or after dinner drinks - sometimes there is 'quiet' entertainment - so you could check with them

For something different , if they haven';t done it - one can book a private dinner party (min. 6 - so 7 of you would be fine) - at Fisherpond Great House - dine in old world charm - excellent cuisine. Think this might be a unique and totally different experience - there is a thread on TA about Fisherpond Great House with reservation details and a website. - you might check it out and see if it fits your requirements.

The restaurant at Sandpiper is ideal, lovely setting and superb food. I am sure your parents would love to go back and see many familiar faces who gave been working/managing the hotel for many years. If you give them a call or an email beforehand I am sure they would add a little special something to the evening.

The Cliff has undergone renovations so perhaps a meal or cocktail there would also be a treat for your parents.

The Sandpiper Restaurant has always had a superb reputation which tends to get missed as it is a Hotel. Many top chefs in Barbados started off working for the O'Hara family at the Sandpiper before going on to starting their own restaurants on the Island----------------a prime example being Larry who now owns Cin Cin .

A recent review on the Sandpiper in the Hotel Reviews refers just to their Restaurant. Have a look at it and take your Parents back there for a meal, it may not have a sea view but it has wonderful service, and top class food, and really, that is what a restaurant should be about.

SarahR - we were not implying that Sandpiper wasn't an excellent place to dine (we've been dining there -like your parents no doubt - since 1975!) ... but you also asked for other suggestions - you ruled out the Cliff - with the "wow" factor - and asked for suggestions that would be different... that was the only reason we suggested something else. - By all means have a lovely dinner at Sandpiper - Enjoy the ambiance and the food and the excellent service.
