Earthworks Pottery

We would like to go to Earthworks Pottery. We have not rented a car and prefer to take buses. Is the only way to get there from Fitts Village by taxi? Thanks

the links below are for the big blue buses that go from Bridgetown up to Shop Hill, which is where Earthworks Pottery is located. You could take a bus all the way into Bridgetown to the Princess Alice Terminal and then take the bus from there.. however.. the 2nd option looks like it comes up Spring Garden Highway and picks up passengers from the Bottom of University Hill (there is a round about there and a bus stop at the bottom of the hill before heading up. that is the #46 bus. you would need to take a blue bus from Fitts Village to that roundabout (there is a gas station on the right side of the road and a bus stop there as well. and then walk over to the stop going up the hill.. if that makes any since.. and then do the reverse on the way back.. ASK the Driver if he/she is going past Earthworks Pottery at Shop Hill and if the answer is yes.. get on...

It is a fascinating place to visit - ( it was started by a Canadian woman with a fine arts degree - who actually went back college to learn ceramics so she could start a unique business in Barbados and provide local employment! )- business is now run by her son.

The easiest way is by taxi but the bus ride would be an interesting one.

We were there to-day and everyone drove in or used a taxi. The bus doesn't take you to the door, you'll still have a bit of an uphill walk to the property. Once there you can sit at the restaurant and have something to drink and relax before going into the pottery area.

The National Heroes Gallery at Parliament in Bridgetown honors and interprets ten individuals, only one of whom was female - Sarah Ann Gill http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sarah_Ann_Gill.

The "artist" chosen by the Gallery to interpret/reflect upon Mrs. Gill was Earthworks Pottery.

HI Canby, wondered if you were here..

I did post the bus route.. but..I actually think taking a taxi would be the best way to get there.. You will enjoy looking around and you can even walk around the actual pottery watching them work.. go to the batik studio and check out the art gallery... (and you will not be concerned about buying pieces and having to walk back to the main road and taking them back by bus..)

As part of an island tour (thanks Taxicabby!!), one of our stops was to Earthworks Pottery.

They have lots of gorgeous designs, along with some that have BARBADOS (Sunshine patterns) on it....wonderful keepsake for a fabulous trip!! The building is even a great photo op! As indicated, they do a great job for packing, ours made it through two flights back to Boston.

Enjoy!!!
