stopover of a few hours

Enroute to Grenada, we have about 5 hours stopover in Barbados. Is there any good place to visit, not far from the airport? A good little bar, or a beach, a market? We could probably work with 2 - 3 hours, if all is on schedule.

There is a great bar right across the road from the airport where you can have drinks and lunch. I'd also recommend you visit the Barbados Concorde Experience which is right next door to BGI. You can easily walk there and take a tour of the majestic British Airways Concorde which is there on display. You could also take a taxi or SAM LORDS CASTLE bus to Crane Beach where you could relax for two hours and then return to BGI.

Alternatively, just take a taxi or a BRIDGETOWN bus to Rockley Beach where you'll have bars, restaurants and kiosks on the beach retailing local items. This is just 15 minutes from BGI. A taxi would cost you $34 BBD, the bus would be $2 BBD per person. If you do take a bus, do ensure it is taking the route via OISTINS.

Hope this helps

Regards

You could take a taxi to The St. Lawrence Gap area. It's closer to the airport than Rockley Beach. This is an area that has shops in The Chattel Village, a Best of Barbados Shop for a wide choice of souvenirs (placemats, tea towels, small prints, trays all based on the art of a local artist - Jill Walker. There are also many restaurants. There is a nice beach- Dover Beach- where you could rent chairs and get a bite to eat.

Thanks for the great suggestions! Sounds like we won't need to be stuck in the airport, afterall!
