Swimming with turtles

Can't wait for our upcoming trip in February! Would like to find a swimming with turtles tour. Hoping to find something where the main focus is on swimming with the turtles and not just snorkeling around a reef or sunken ships. Any favorites? We do enjoy snorkeling, as well, but doesn't need to be the focus. Thank you for any replies.

Look at Cool Runnings - they are excellent and the food/drink they supply are great. They pick up and drop off at your hotel

Beachpup, all the snorkel trips go to the turtles. We went last week with Silver Moon. We snorkeled with the turtles then we went to second site which is near by and snorkeled over a couple of sunken boats. Then we sailed down the coast for about an hour ,anchored swam and had lunch. The crew is great. No matter who you pick you will have a good day.

If you want to focus on swimming with the turtles i recommend one of the smaller cats such as Calabaza, Silver Moon, Elegance or It Wasn't Me as there is a maximum of 12 people on board while the larger cats can have up to 40 - 50 people on board. So basically you have a lot more freedom with the turtles.

If you just want to swim with the turtles then there are quite a few small boats and glass bottom boats that operate from Paynes Bay on the west coast.. You could just turn up on the beach and ask one of them to take you out to the turtles for an hour or so. Would keep your costs down if you don't want the whole catamaran trip.

Babiface - that sounds like a good idea. We are staying at Paynes Bay next year and with most of us having done the catamaran tours a couple of times before it would be nice to do as you suggested. Could you still swim with the turtles with the small boats?

If it is closer for you, on Carlisle Beach, where is Lobster Alive, you also have small boats that will bring you 5 minutes away to swim with the turtles. I think the price was 15$ per person for 1 hour last December. If you are a good swimmer, you can swim, it is just in front of the beach, you will see the people.

Pmp you can swim out from the beach. If you aren't a very strong swimmer you could wear a snorkel vest or maybe a noodle. We used to swim out most days when stopping on Paynes. I also found they often came into the shallows in the afternoond over the reef opposite roughly where the blue monkey used to be.
