Vacation Rental near off-shore snorkeling?

Just back from the Turks and Caicos where we rented a villa with 2 other couples. We were right on the beach and were able to leave the villa in our bathing suits, carrying our snorkel gear, and enter the water in front of the reef, enjoy the show and then "snorkel home"!! Loved it!!! Any recommendations for something similar in Bonaire? Would like individual apartments or a 2-bedroom villa. Vrbo suggestions?

I would suggest you contact Ann at www.bonairecaribbean.com. She is a vacation specialist with connections to a wide variety of lodging on Bonaire. I am sure she can help you find the perfect villa or apartment.

We've been to Turks & Caicos and Grace Bay many times and always enjoy it. I suspect you were snorkeling at either the Bight Reef (Coral Gardens) or Smith Reef. These are nice and convenient, but I think you will find the snorkeling along the Bomaire coastline much better, with many more places to snorkel. Of course, you won't find any beaches anything like Grace Bay beach. Most "beaches" on Bonaire are either ironstone or broken up Coral. A couple of the resorts have brought in some sand to make small sandy beaches but you probably won't have this at any of the rental villas. Although we go to Bonaire mainly for the great windsurfing, we also enjoy the snorkeling.

Like Bluewater, I recommend Ann to help you find just the place you are looking for. She is very familiar with the island and can help you get the right place.

We just returned from a week at "Port Bonaire."

The snorkeling at Windsock and 18th Palm were both accessible from the front steps of this rental. We LOVED Windsock. We stayed in a 1 BR but the unit's owner also has a 2 BR. http://www.vrbo.com/321189

Her one BR is http://www.vrbo.com/259956

You can read the excellent reviews under the 1 BR. She just acquired the 2 BR and it has no reviews yet. She is top-notch to work with.

We also snorkeled right in front of the Plaza (18th Palm). It has easy access right from the Plaza's shore.

If TCI is your cup of tea, then check out Harbour Village in Bonaire. I have stayed there numerous times and it is the best kept secret in the caribbean. Best private beach, great dining, great suites, wreck right off shore, great dive outfit (Diving Adventures), right across from Klein Bonaire www.harbourvillage.com. Check them out. They are everything the site says and more. I have also done Provo, Grand Cayman, Anguilla, St. Maarten and this place is a favorite of ours. Fantastic.

Having had a tour on our recent vacation on Bonaire, we booked our next stay with Beachcomber Villas. Two new apartments, meticulously appointed, upstairs of the owners' villa with a huge terrace overlooking Klein. They are divers and have accommodated every need. The Cliff dive/snorkel site is right in front. Check out www.homeaway.com/vacation-rental/p900690 to get an idea of the place. We wish we'd known about this place sooner so we could have stayed there in May!
