Accommodation Location

Hi,

We normally like to stay one week in one area of an island, and, the second week in a different area. It seems that most hotels are in Kralendjik. I see that Lac Bay also has some options. Would you say this would be a good combo to get as "feel" for the island?

Or, is north/south of the city different enough?

Bonaire is a small enough island that you can get a feel for it very easily even if you base yourself in one place. Kralendijk is very small and while it is the address for most hotels they are spread along the shore line both north and south of town. There are also rentals in areas called Belnem and Hato along the coast as well as Santa Barbara with great views. Those are more residential and have a different feel from the resorts (ie: Divi, Buddy, Habitat, Harbor Village) because they are not commercial areas. Lac Bay is on the opposite coast and is about a 15 minute drive to Kralendijk. It is a lovely area with mangroves and a beautiful bay but services are limited there with just a few restaurants and lodging options.

My suggestion would be to decide what your priorities are for lodging (ocean front, hotel, condo, villa, etc.) and work from there. As I said, the island is small enough that you can get a good feel for it no matter where you stay.

You will definitely get the feel of Bonaire even by staying in one place for the full two weeks! We always stay at the same place, and then just take some time in between diving to walk around and enjoy the few resorts on island. Lac Bay is beautiful, so if you enjoy more of a secluded area and don't mind driving into "town" for food or groceries or shopping, that might work. We prefer to just drive the 15 minutes there whenever we want to relax there and enjoy the scenery!

Have fun - Bonaire is great!
