DAE (Dutch Antilles Express) Airline

Of course it's always good to check TA closely before making any travel bookings, but I didn't, and I booked inter-ABC island flights with DAE. Then a vacation rental owner I contacted regarding a booking actually suggested to not book with DAE. Ooops, too late!!

I did heed a TA poster's advice, however, that there wouldn't be enough time to take a 6 a.m. flight from Curacao to Bonaire and expect to make my 8:30 a.m. flight to the U.S. I changed it ($30 penalty, not too bad, but still...) to the previous day in the afternoon - not at the crack of dawn, but not the last flight of the day either. DAE couldn't cancel two flights in a row, could they?? I had read a bunch of forum posts about Bonaire, and hadn't seen much anything about airlines flying among the islands. Maybe I didn't go back far enough, or should have just asked first, before I blithely went ahead and booked flights on DAE.

Their phone rep today must have been in la-la land. I said that I wanted to change flights for January 4, and she said it was already in the past. Well, duh, my flights are for 2014!

I am worried after reading this! We fly out of Miami, thru Curacao and Aruba, to Bonaire on Friday. this is after flight changes two weeks ago by DAE. The flight times are really close. Keeping my fingers crossed!

Worst airline in the world for customer service--There isn't any. They cancelled my flight last April and put me on another that totally missed my US connection. Then refused/ignored all requests for refund. I had to book with another airline and still didn't get my money back. DO NOT EVER FLY WITH THEM--According to Travelocity they might not even be in business now.

From what I can find out, they were declared bankrupt (by the Curacao government) in late August this year (2013). Unlike some other airline bankruptcies, DAE had already stopped all flights and the bankruptcy effectively signaled the end of DAE.
