Cuba with an infant - checklist help please

We're taking our 8 month old to Cuba and since it's coming up soon, I'm trying to think if there's anything we're forgetting for our packing list. Does anyone have any tips on what to bring for an infant? We've got the basics like sunscreen, bugspray, sun hat, UV swim suit, swim diapers, etc. Any ideas? Thanks.

It is very hard to get many of the things you are accustomed to in Canada.

So take all the things you might need:-

wetwipes

diapers

formula

cereal

snacks

toys pacifiers etc.

Try to find a covered floatie. Took my 6 month old grandaughter and this item was a lifesaver. Seems like you have everything else covered. Perhaps you may want to email the resort ahead of time and ask for a rocker. This came in handy for us.

My wife took our son when he was eight monthes and there were a few biggies:

1) Formula - if he/she isn't breast feeding. If you run out it is difficult to get

1b) Diapers - expensive, crappy and hard to get if you run out

2) Sunscreen

3) Lots of clothes (no washing machines)

4) Hats, floaty body suits (sunprotection ones work best)

5) A beach blanket or playpen

6) Stroller

7) The ability to let the cubans help you and spoil your child, they are extemely loving and helpful with children!!

Taken from my inside pages:-

Travelling With Babies:-

It is advisable to take all the Nappies and swim nappies that you are likely to need during your holiday; nappies are generally hard to buy and are usually of a poor quality and expensive when they can be found.

You may find it sensible to take a good variety of jarred and packet foods, as well as cereal, juices and snacks/treats that baby is accustomed to..Cuban food can have a fair amount of salt and may not be to babies liking; snacks and nibbles available in Cuba are not British brands and taste very different; baby may have a hard time adjusting.

Milk; You will need to take any formula milk with you as this is not widely available throughout Cuba. Bottled water is widely available to purchase.

Other; Take sterilising tablets and any medication you would be likely to use if baby was to fall ill in Cuba.. Calpol, dioralite, re-hydration solutions, ear drops and anti-biotics. It would be a good idea to discuss your trip to Cuba with your GP and explain that medications are hard to come by in Cuba and that you would feel happier about having any medications at your disposal; your GP may be sympathetic and give you a prescription!

Take a good supply of dummies/soothers and bottles/teats

Sunhats and parasols are a must as well as high factor sunlotions. Calmine lotion or a quality lavender cream is another suggestion in case of sunburn. Be very cautious of cloudy/overcast days, the sun is there behind the clouds. Also be cautious when leaving baby in the shade...the sun is very hot and baby will still get the sun in the most shadiest of places. Take a thin, cotton, long sleeved t-shirt (or a sun suit) for children to wear when playing in the water or to cover up with to guard against getting too much sun...could prove to be very helpful!

Pack baby listening devices on top of your suitcase or in hand luggage as these will draw attention to customs officers, walkie talkies are banned in Cuba and they often think baby monitors are walkie talkies; once they have established that they are baby monitors you will have no further problems taking them into Cuba.

Another thing, do take some travel wash or washing powder to wash little clothes through.

There is a shortage of washing powder at the moment in Cuba.

One other little tidbit, plan your feedings carefully on the way there and back as it can be a little hectic and a long time from your house to the resort!
