Cuba August 2012

Hi All

For the last 2 yeasr we have visited the Dom Rep, but next year we are looking at visiting Cuba for the first time.

Is August classed as low season where the hotels are quite quiet? and do the hotels fill up with locals at the weekends(as is the case in the Domincan?

Many Thanks

August is considered low season in Cuba, And yes you guessed it the hotels do get a lot more traffic from locals staying mostly on day passes.

It being busier on a weekend does not bother us, we like to mix with the locals and feel that it adds a bit of spice to the holiday.

We are looking at the Sirenis La Selina, I have 2 children (boys) who will be 10 and 8 years old. Do you think this resort will be suitable?

Cuba in any of the months of Summer and into late Fall can be visited by storms, so you take a chance by going expecting the variety package, unless you travel last minute where you are watching for any incoming.

the hotel you are looking at is a good hotel in varadero..... varadero is a tourist region in cuba (ordinary cubans are blocked from entering the peninsula unless they have paid for a hotel stay)..... your kids will be fine

Thatnks for your help, I researched on the forums before going to the Dom Rep. We almost got caught by Hurricane Irene in August this year, it swept just past us.

When researching the issues on Dom Rep, locals at a weekend are a problem for some people, however we have always enjoyed meeting and mixing with other nationalities and cultures. However reading the reviews on Cuban hotels this doesn't seem to be much of an issue and is never mentioned.

Does anyone have any tips or points that I should look into before visiting Cuba for the first time?

********

DICU, that is absolutely untrue and you know it. Why have you taken the role of your character (Pinnochhio) over the last few days with spreading such garbage? Some people may realize that you have issues, but others mightn't.

Yes, on this form is a quick tips under the heading, Q & A about Cuba. Its a quick read and will help you get started, further doing your reseach on the area and the resorts you are interested in is a very good idea. Cuba has allot to offer most people, with lots of action to very quiet, your reseach will be your best placed effort, before making that final choices.

Good searching and happy travels. AB
