How can we source a Driver and Car Hire, and what cost should we expect?

I believe you have too much planned for the time allocated.

OK. Appreciate your comments, but we like to see as much of a country as possible on first visit, so that if we want to come back we can choose to do so.

In reality we may tweak, as probably want to do a scuba dive on wreck nr Rio La Mula on South Coast.

Just unsure how easy it is for us to find a driver with car to fulfil?

skifsailor: your passengers are going to spend almost half their time in Cuba seeing a lot of marabu bushes, sugar cane and banana trees out the car window while you will see a lot of road while watching out for potholes, ox drawn carts, and bicycles in your lane. I think you are just trying to go too any places in too few days.

Too many first time visitors rationalize an illogical schedule because it is their first or possibly only trip. But it is your trip. You do as you want.

My last trip for 2 weeks was:

land Holguin

2 nights in Gibara

6 nights in Guaro, including a day trip to Mayari and another to Cueto

2 nights in Bayamo

2 nights in Manzanillo including day trip to Demajagua

1 night in Holguin

We hired private cars and drivers for each trip, occasionally the night before but typically when ready to travel. We never had a problem finding a car, even in Guaro, a small village with only 3 cars. The total I paid for all the transportation was around 250 CUC whereas a rental car would have cost 1,200-1,300 CUC plus gas.

skiffsailor, I must totally agree with everyone else. You would do well to cut your itinerary in half. Unless you can hire a magical transporter to get from place to place instantly, you're allotting no time for travel. Even with a hired cubano at the wheel, you're going to spend half your time stuck in a car if you try to fit all of those destinations in. And you'll not be able to savor the flavour in each locale because you'll be spending so little time with boots on the ground. Less is more. ;-)
