travel around Cuba without Spanish

Hi,

me and my husband (around 35 years) are thinking of going to Cuba for 2 weeks at end of November. We would like travelling around, see nature, culture, spend a little time in beach. We have options to go to Cuba with organized tour or organize it by ourselves.

So, the question is if it is easy to travel around Cuba with English knowledge, but with very, very limited Spanish?

Or should we better take a ready made tour?

Now that is a difficult question to answer. It would depend on how confident you feel. A lot of Cubans that have frequent dealings with tourists speak excellent English but outside of those and the resort workers most of the population only speak Spanish.

If you wish to organise the tour for yourself you could do worse than first of all contact some reliable guides:

Haven't done this in Cuba but did in Mexico. We made our own tour for several days off the beaten track. Wasn't too much of an issue and made for an adventure for sure! Don't let knowing minimal Spanish stop you, that's for sure.

Hi. We just came from an unforgettable trip around all Cuba, as part of an international circuit.

The country is amazing and its people something out of this world. It´s very easy to move between cities and towns but I have to admit we had an extra help. Thanks to this forum, we knew about the services of some guys who offer private tours around the country. Finally we hired Darien Paez, and the choice couldn´t be better. He took us during 8 days for the main cities in western and central Cuba. Unfortunately we didn’t have more time for going to the East. All in all, his services made the difference, he was paramount… found for us nice homestays sharing with Cubans in their houses, he was in charge of planning everything. We visited towns like Cienfuegos, Santa Clara, Trinidad, Peninsula Zapata, Havana and Vinales. Darien drove us to the most incredible places, cultural projects and ecologic farms, out and in the traditional touristic circuits. He is very knowledgeable and extremely professional. He is Geographer and hold a Master Degree in Tourist Management, so he is very acquainted with this business. I leave you his email, he is totally recommendable… darien.paez@gmail.com ..

Enjoy your trip!!!
