Bring your cell for phone/email??

Just curious....

We've been to Cuba a few times now and are heading back in a couple of weeks. I normally use the internet service they provide, just to touch base with family and check in on the kids. I've never added it up as to the little tickets I get for the internet, I'm sure I've went through a few $$$'s worth!.

I'm with bell and have a blackberry. Has anyone used the travel plans for data/voice? Input would be greatly appreciated!

You have to call Bell to know what rate you can get. It differs a lot from one region/person/time of year/agent...

But forget about data, what ever the plan, it costs a fortune. Texts are the less expensive, phone calls will be at least 1.40$/minute.

Winky I would recommend turning off Data, even if you receive notifications on Facebook, you will potentially get dinged with high cost. I purchase a plan from Rogers for text packages and that seems to cover my need to be in touch with those at home. You can get a voice/text package as well but it really does not cover alot of voice time.

It's probable cheaper to use email from a computer at the resort.

Bell Blackberry email (I had one) is hit-and-miss at best, and it it expensive.

For those "Are you still Alive?" messages, ;) Your best bet is just sending and receiving texts, 60cents per.

note too: you can send a text, to an email addy, and they will receive it.

and they can send an email to [10-digit phone number]@txt.bell.ca, and you will get it as a text.

Where are you staying? Why not buy a WIFI card at a hotel?
