Hola

More luck with Cinco de Mayo celebrations in Mexico......not so much in Cuba. Also more rum than tequila.....I'm sure you'll have a great time anyway.

Cheers.

Cinco de Mayo is a Mexican celebration. If you want to visit Cuba during a festive time, New Years Eve is the time to visit Cuba.

Lori, if you are in Havana or varadero May 1, check out the May Day parade and celebrations, and be sure to wear red.

I thought Cinco de Maya was a Mexican holiday which we always celebrate with the Mexican flag and huge margaritas.

Are you saying that it is a Latin American holiday??

Cinco de Mayo is almost more of a USA celebration (by Mexican-Americans, mainly) than anywhere else, other than parts of Mexico.

In the state of Puebla, the date is observed as El Día de la Batalla de Puebla, to celebrate the Mexican army's victory over French forces at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862. Hardly any reason for it to be celebrated in Cuba, or anywhere else in Latin America.

Although, there are celebrations in some other unlikely places, like Windsor, Ontario, Brisbane, Australia, Montego Bay and Tokyo. Apparently, some people in those places like to dress up and pretend they are Mexican, much like people in some places like to dress up and pretend they are Irish on March 17th.
