Is it best to take cash with you and convert there or can you with draw CUC from cash machines?

Are there many cash machines in varadero? Are you likely to find cash machines on any resorts? I am staying at Iberostar Tainos when I travel later in the year.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Easiest way is to take cash and convert at the airport or at the resort. Not too many cash machines around, and they sometimes do strange calculations to get to your currency.

Donna:

Take Sterling cash with you. If you need more use your debit or credit card to draw cash from the Cadeca at your hotel or in the town. I wouldn't put my card in a machine even if there was one.

Make sure though that the issuing bank of your cards has no connection with the US or they won't be accepted.

Thanks Bellagio,

Just concerned about taking large amount of cash with me as I will be travelling only with my son on this occaision.

I only have a debit card, which is visa electron. Do you know if this is widely accepted in Cuba? My bank is co-op bank so hopefully this will be ok - supposed to be ethical at any rate! ;-)

DonnaMM:

I couldn't say for definite whether that card of yours will be accepted or not.

Your hotel will have an inroom safe, I would have thought, so your cash and documents should be safe in that.
