Cuba in August...is it worth it?

My boyfriend and I are planning on doing a last minute trip to Cuba from Aug 3-10 and were wondering what type of weather to expect. I've been checking online for the weather and it looks like even though its hot, it rains everyday!!!

Is it worth our time booking our flight, or should we wait until after the rainy season?

Book it. It can rain at any time. At the moment it's boiling hot there.

my experience down in the carribbean is if it rains...its for a short period of time...hard yes...but not for long...its nice afterwards because it cools off the ground which is hot as hell !

I agree 100% with Ceeajay. When / if it rains it is always around 16.00 hrs and only for a very short time.

Hot...? Yes, I just went out for only 10 minutes and I am soaking wet.

And another typical thing of the weather here, is that it can rain extremely locally. Really amazing...yesterday when I drove home I left Old Havana with sunshine and the moment I crossed the tunnel of 5ta Av (for the experienced amongst us) it was raining cats and dogs.

But all in all, plan your trip and have fun.

Hiya

I've been in July August many times and just as our friend from havana describes is what you are seeing on the weather forecasts .... Isolated or scattered showers.

You acn actually watch these system go by ... whether they hit the area you are in is if and/or when.

We go to Cuba every August, does not matter where you are, Varadero, Holguin, Cayo Coco, it's mostly day time heating that trigger isolated showers, they are very brief, and refreshing, hit & miss mostly, could rain 8km down a streach of beach and never go towards your location, its great watching them fly by. You will only get longer periods of rain if there is a Tropical Depression heading your way.

Go & have a great time.

Cheers

Hi MizShelle,

Just some extra info I have come across;

We are headed down to Cuba in Aug as well. So def'n looking forward to the trip.

check out this site;

http://www.wunderground.com/history/airport/MUHA/1972/7/18/PlannerHistory.html

According to the weather planner on this site (it's pretty neat) - between the dates of 01 Aug and 30 Aug there is a average temp of 89 degrees F, an average low of 72 degrees F, a 47% chance of having a day over 90 degrees F / 32 degrees C, and 2 percent chance of a cloudy day (4 out of a historical 161 days).

So bring it on. It may rain an hour here and there, but - heh its been rainy here for the last two weeks.

At least in Varadero I'll be drinking rum and cokes on the ocean....

Don't forget that with the humidity 85oF is going to feel like 100oF
