Does anyone know if the duty free shop is open 24 hrs?

I am flying out of Cuba during the night - will be at the airport between midnight and 3:00 a.m. and need to know if the duty free shop at the airport will be open during those hours.

It's supposed to be open whenever a flight is departing, but don't count on it.

Just to be on the safe side I'd suggest you buy your rum/cigars/etc. in Varadero.

There is no such thing as "Duty Free" in Cuba, so generally (there are some exceptions) prices are roughly the same everywhere except on the resorts themselves. Because of the captive audience sometimes resort store prices will be more expensive.

The cigar/rum stores in Varadero will also have a much better selection than what's available at the airport.

I left once from Varadero at 3.30 AM and the only store they had open at the airport was a small store with a couple of Cigar Boxes and Rum so if i would be you i would listen to Martien 24 and buy your stuff in Varadero .

As for Rum beeing cheaper at the airport its not even worth you will save sometimes a couple of cents .

Jafo,

You might find this interesting... When I said there's no such thing as "Duty Free" I meant that literally. Since Cuba has no tax on its products there's absolutely no difference between the Airport Duty Free Store and a "normal" store anywhere in Cuba. It's funny that they even call them "Duty Free" at the airports.

Varadero has a couple of very nice cigar and rum stores. You'll have way more choice and selection - especially if you're buying something a little special - than what's available at the airport.

Terry,

Thanks for the info. No taxes in Cuba.. got to like that. Amazing the taxes we pay to go to Cuba.

Got to research Cigars.. I wouldn't have a clue what to buy.

With very few exceptions (Marlboro, Lucky Strike, etc.) foreign cigarettes are generally not available in Cuba.

Cheers,
