@#26: "Bubbas, tipping and gifting all in one thread. Now this should be interesting"

Maybe we should talk about Speedos here too. Actually, I got a good price on a pair of trunks in Cuba a couple of years ago. Even at the little shop in the hotel, they were cheaper than in Swimco, and I thought as good, or better quality. I guess that's why I thought there might be a chance of getting a deal on socks, but alas, not so.

And, yes we should be nice. I bet if we all tried, we could have a nice calm, courteous discussion. Even about these topics. (Well, maybe not about Speedos.)

After too many years of travelling to Cuba than I care to remember, I may be a bit jaded, but the last thing I want to do when I am trying to destress, wind down, and enjoy my vacation, is go shopping to see what's available in the stores, discuss prices of things with my friends, (usually too busy partying)or worry about what people I don't even know need or don't need. This is what I do in Cuba:

Tip for good services rendered in CUCs only.

Do not tip to GET good service.

The gifts should be left at home unless bringing them for good friends and family.

Donate to reputable charities

Regarding tipping, gifting, speedos, Bubbas, towel wars, monies & exchange, smoking and numerous other controversial topics.

Why is it that these topics become out and out war sometimes? To the point of personal attacks? We are all entitled to our own opinions. Why do the attacks have to become "personal"?

Everyone that posts here - loves Cuba - for one reason or another - its the one thing we all have in common, otherwise, we would not be here.

Can it not just be left at that?

I recently lectured at a hospital about a topic that I have quite a bit of experience with. Someone told me after it was over "Man, you're smart!". My answer was "No. I just know different things than you know".

We all know a little bit about different things concerning Cuba. No one person on this forum "knows it all". I think we are all smart enough to know when someone is stirring the proverbial pot, yet, we feed into it at times.

Es Cuba! Thats all really, that there is to say. Isnt it?

"Why is it that these topics become out and out war sometimes? To the point of personal attacks?"

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Reason is simple...certain people seem to think that Cubans dont need anything, and that Cuba is just fine the way it is. So if anyone thinks different, they get condemned for whatever reason.
"We are all entitled to our own opinions. Why do the attacks have to become "personal"?"
So very true ... If we tip with CUC's, so be it. If we tip with CUC's & gifts, so be it. If we gift other than to charitys, so be it.
Each person is an individual, & deserves to be treated as an individual, even if they gift when 'others' say they shouldn't.
And yes, "Can it not just be left at that?"
Hola
And yes, "Can it not just be left at that?"
It should be that easy....so why is it not....I think we all know why.
Many just like to attack...or rather one point of view over another.
cheers.
I saw the title "tips & gifts" and expected to see a war going on here and all I get is this? What is the world coming to?
Let me just say that I am tired of, and will not give the time if day to, anyone who begs or tries to mooch not so subtly while I'm trying to enjoy myself on the Cuba soil, on the resort or off. I give enough and to whom I find appropriate............and I'll just leave it at that.!
