towa,

The weather on Curacao is much like Aruba except less windy. I have always felt very safe there, you just need to use common sense as on any caribbean island. The Marriot is a nice resort, also there is the Hilton right next door, I don't know what the price difference would be, but you have a choice of 2 beach and pool areas. Good Luck!

Don't worry - it'll be very safe for you two. The whole Aruba thing was blown out of proportion last year, tragic for the family though it was.

You will really enjoy walking around Willemstad and seeing the old colonial buildings and the myriad of shops. That'll probably take two days to explore and then I'm sure which ever hotel you stay at will have lots of suggestions for trips and places of interest.

Curacao is not the party place that Aruba is and doesn't have as many casinos along a strip that Aruba does. It's more the business centre of the Netherlands Antilles and the atmosphere there is a bit more serious than the headiness of Aruba.

Food - you tend to get what you pay for. But do try the local food from the kiosks in Willemstad - meat filled pastries called "pastechis" and croquettes and "lumpia" (large egg rolls). Yum!

I think it's good you're trying a new place this trip. When you get back, you can compare the two places for us.

Curacao is a lot more geographically and historically interesting than Aruba. Lots of history to view, mountains, etc. to investigate.

I highly recommend that you get out and see some of the island -- Mt. Christoffel, Boka Tabla & Boka Pistol, Westpunt, sail/snorkel trips, shopping downtown, excellent museums (Kura Hulanda, maritime, synagogue). Be sure to try the appetizer, biter ballen (sp?) while you're there. They melt in your mouth, and you'll never eat another mozerella stick as long as you live!
