Debating a trip to Renaissance Curacao

Hi, my husband and I are planning a vacation in January to celebrate out ten year anniversary, and we have (finally) settled between Renaissance Curacao or the Sandals Grande Antigua. I'm torn between the two; the cost is roughly the same. We have visitied Jamaica, Costa Rica, and we've done some cruising. We both love relaxing by the beach/pool, and we love the idea of having some nightlife (casino on/near property) as well as ability to do some excursions while we're there. Basically, I'm looking for the most "bang for my buck" as I think both will promise great experiences. Also, I can obtain all-inclusive packages from either resort property, which is the huge sell for us. Any recommendations?

SunBound05,

I just returned from Curacao a week ago, after spending 12 days on the island. From what all you describe you'd be better suited to go to the Curacao Marriott, a few mintues from town, on the beach, with a casino, great rates and great pool, versus the Renaissance. As you may know the Renaissance is not actually on a beach. While it is right downtown, the downtown area can be seen (completely) in one day (or afternoon). The larger selection of better restaurants aren't downtown, and will require a car or taxi rides. The Marriott does offer an all-inclusive I believe. I will be posting my review of the Marriott within the next day of so.

By going all inclusive you'll miss out on some great food choice.

Thank you so much for your reply, SoCal. I definitely looked into the Marriott Beach Resort and adored the property. However, they do not offer all inclusive for the dates I desired to travel (late January).

I understand that I may be sacrificing food choice by going all-inclusive, but I've heard that restaurants in Curacao can be quite pricey. With the all-inclusive option at the Renaissance, we would be able to eat all of our meals at from what reviewers have stated quite good cuisine for an AI for about $137/daily/per person - and that includes all alcoholic beverages as well.

Does anyone know how Curacao compares to the experience of Antigua in cultural experience, activites, nightlife, etc.?

SunBound, restaurants in Curacao aren't pricey. We never eat expensive, Renaissance seafod buffet was most expensive, excellent by the way, maybe cost us $60 with couple of drinks.

Some more restaurant options. Close to town Seasons, Gouverneur, Mundo Bizarro. Out on the west side, Karakter, Misje

The restaurant mentioned by Ralphy Asia de Cuba is closed. It is some kind of Grill now. Not been there yet.
