Looking to rent a house/villa near a beach

Mature non-smoking Canadian couple retiring next year looking to rent a house in Dominica. It must be private and secluded. Not part of a resort. Not interested in an apartment or shared accommodations. The house need not be large, but it should be fully furnished and well equipped kitchen.

We prefer it to be within walking distance to the beach since we are both into swimming & diving. If the house is not close to a beach then it should come with a car .

We are looking to rent for 2 months year after year to escape our cold Canadian winters. If you know of a house that is clean and affordable please email us at : guestallan@hotmail.com

Best regards, Allan

You may wish to consider locations like Calibishi or Soufriere or Scott's Head, Mero, Point Michel. Maybe you can google places to stay in Dominica. Look for coastal areas. Nature Island Destinations may give you some ideas.

Noticed that you have been looking for a private apartment since 2008/2009. Were you able to get any nice beach areas???

There are lots of accommodation in Calibishi, and the view there is great. There are nice beaches in Portsmouth as well, I am sure you could get a good accommodation there.

There are lots of accommodation in Scott's Head and Soufriere. These villages are fishing communities with lots of diving opportunities there, with Nature Island Dive located in Soufriere.

Which part of the island were you able to visit on your past vacations?

You may want to contact the Calibishie Tourism Center: www.calibishiecoast.com; ctdc@cwdom.dm; dreamsdominica@hotmail.com

They are a great resource if you are interested in finding a place in the north, which is a beautiful area with a lot of gorgeous beaches.

Another good resource is Tina Alexander who runs a guest house called "Home from Home". She helps people who are interested in relocating to Dominica for good or just for part of the year. www.islandguests.com, lifeline@cwdom.dm. She's from England and relocated to Dominica years ago and has a wealth of knowledge about the country and real estate and long term rentals.

Hope that helps!

Talk to Tina Alexander- Home from Home.. she takes care of rentals for people, prices may be negociable... be very clear about what you want.. remember buses don't run on Sunday, otherwise local transport is good if you go with THEIR schedule.

PS Beaches are few and far between in Dominica- Most at Portsmouth- if you mean scuba diving, just south of Roseau, I forget the names, are often mentioned and access is easy by local bus. Maybe we will meet you there, we go from Jan to end of March and have fallen in love with the island people. Will be our 7th time this coming year!
