Relief for bug bite itch and swelling

Spoke to three pharmacists yesterday as my husband gets bit bad and really swells. They all recommended he start taking allergy tablets 3-4 days prior to leaving so as to have them in his system and then one every day while we are gone. We bought the non-drowsy type. Keep in mind this will not prevent the bites but will definitely make life easier after the bite. Even our 6 year old grandaughter will start taking this as she swells up bad as well. Hope this info will help someone else.

As well as antihistamine ("allergy drugs") I would suggest taking tea-tree oil for any bites that then go on to burst (or get scratched). Aloe-Vera will also help when all used in conjunction. Aloe-Vera grows naturally in DR so you could always harvest your own if you know what to look for, alternatively, take AV gel. You can get AV & Tea Tree in a moisturising cream which is excellent for relieving sunburn too.

Gel. The gel can be 'sticky' but is ideal for small breaks in the skin.

Two years ago we purchased from Boots a "clicky" which basically gave you a very mild electric shock which deadens the nerves around the bite and stops you from scratching it making it worse, and of course stopping it from scabbing and looking even more unsightly. Once you feel you've been bitten just press the clicky onto the bite and click 6 times it really does work.

Versions of this item can be purchased in Home Bargains and Superdrug for just a few £ they work just as well.
