DR 1st Time

Hi all 3 couples are planning to go to DR in July 2010, we are thinking of staying at Bluebay Villa Dorada, in Playa Dorada.

I was just womdering the following .......

Are there any Clubs Bars Casinos etc close to the hotel, ie walking distance or taxi

Was also wondering on the price of things outside the hotel the most important thing being the price of ...

Local beer

and

Rose Wine (for the misses) if available

Also i've been reading here and there about Malaria and some say to take the tablets some say it doesn't matter if i think i can get away without taking them i wont so i would like people's honest opinions.

I'll leave it there for now many thanks for your help.

In the Dorada Complex they have a Casino and a few bars and clubs all within walking distance.

Drinks are expensive in the complex.

Outside the complex a beer will be anything from 40peosos to 120pesos depending where you drink. They really shove the prices up for the tourists so always best to drink where you can see lots of locals.

Dunno about glasses of wine, we only ever buy a bottle to go with our meal and then take half of it home.

Malaria is not a problem at all so no need to bother with anything, waste of money and time, anyone telling you otherwise doesn't know what they are talking about.

have fun.

hi roger! Belfast girl here, now living in Canada and married for 5 years to canadian.

Dominican Republic is our second home..in the midst of planning our 3rd trip for this year alone (after just returning on Sunday night lol)

Anyway. Your question about beer has been answered. Most resorts have a rose..but sometimes they are not included on the AI.

While you should discuss the issue of Malaria with your doctor, FOR MY HUSBAND and I...over 20 trips (most to PC..but several to PP and La Romana) NEVER have I taken anything. It is up to you and your doctor though.

Cheers and have FUN!!
