Quietest Beach Resort?

We hare hoping to visit Dom Rep in late March 2012.

Please could anyone help us in deciding which area to book into stay?

We are looking for a quiet, relaxing holiday away from the crowds and parties.

We don't want to do the AI thing either, we prefer to just go to small restaurants.

Ideally we would be on the beach or very near the beach.

Could anyone help us in decided which area to stay in?

Many thanks

Las Terrenas would be my choice. Good restaurants, mostly uncrowded beaches and many good options for accommodations.

To the original poster , not knowing your budget, I would highly recommend the Balcones del Atlantico, Hotel Alisei or Hotel playa Colibri in Las Terrenas. JK may want to consider the Bayahibe area as LT is a difficult transfer as no flights from the US. The ultimate in quiet and relaxation would be Las Galeras but dining options are limited :) Happy travels, Ben

Agree about Las Galeras - we have stayed in Todo Blanco - very peaceful - you just hear the sound of the waves.

Near Las Terranas is Playa Bonita with a number of small hotels (Atlantis) and again very quiet.

Thank you for your help.

A few more questions -

what would be the best and cheapest way to get from SDQ airport to Las Galeras? I really love the look of Las Galeras but fear it may be to far from SDQ airport to make it worth a 5 night stay.

Is Las Terrenas easier to get to from SDQ airport? Any idea of a transfer price and method?

Many thanks again

Not sure about this but I think there are flights to El Catay airport (AZS) from the UK. If so this would cut your time down considerably. The transfer from SDQ is a bit expensive if you decide on a taxi or a hassle if you catch the bus as you have to taxi to the bus stop and taxi where the bus lets off and the ride is about 2-2.5 hrs to LT and easily 3 to LG. If you are feeling adventurous you can also rent a vehicle at SDQ but not AZS, but many advise against driving unless you know some Spanish, are used to driving in curvy mountain roads and are accustomed to third world type crazy driving :)
