puerto plata or punta cana ? Somewhere else?

The wife, 21 yr old daugher & myself are looking to DR for a week in early June 2014 at an all-inclusive property. It seems there are hundreds of all-inclusive places. Any recommendations for a location? This is not a culture type of holiday: we are simply looking for serious chill - peace, quiet, food, booze ~ perhaps an activity or two - may not leave property at all. Uhhh, not looking for a spring break type of ambience either. All TA research so far shows just about mostly positives about every place

Any pros/cons for either town?

Does distance to airport[s] matter?

Is there a HUGE difference between a $98/night place vs a $225/night place?

Is a particular hotel chain, such as Iberostar, Bahia, Dreams, etc, much superior to another?

Thanks for any hints - i realize the topic is ridiculously broad.

Punta cana over puerto plata. Punta cana = newer properties, better beach, more choices.

$90 property or $225 property, big difference in service and food .

Stay at a Dreams. Theres 2 in punta cana and 1 in bayahibe/laromana. Dreams offers no writbands, and no reservations for dinner.

The dreams laromana offers a sunset over the ocean and a fisherman village outside of the resort. If you love sea food, this is the place to go. Also snorkling off the beach , and excursion like hirseback riding and island excursions take off from the beach.

Samana Peninsula might be be good for you . Flights from NY straight into El Catey airport then you have the choice of El Portillo in Las Terrenas or Cayacoa or Caya Levantado in Samana.
