Tours from Puerto Plata

My boyfriend and I are heading to the ICD next week-- our first all inclusive!! I was wondering about excursions and tours departing from there. We are set on heading to Samana for a day (yes, we've heard it's a long day) and perhaps some other outings, if something appeals to us.

Can you recommend a tour company for us and what the best method for booking tours would be?

Thanks!

When you get there, you can look at many tours/excursions books available at the resort. You can book through your tour operator or sometimes, there are some beach vendors selling the tours. You don't have to chose a tour offered by your tour operator but can chose any company available. Your travel agent at destination will be able to help you.

Ive found that the best tours to book with were the vendors on the beach. They were atleast reasonable. Some of the tours are way over priced!! Just my opinion!!!

A long day... but well worth it!

Just make sure that the tour uses 'observation' boats not the speedboats. The speedboats are fun but very low, so you can't see as much and offer minimal to no shade. The observation boats have an upper deck but also you can go down below the deck for some shade but still see out.

Kim Beddall does the best trip, she's a proper naturalist but you normally have to arrange your own transport. If you can get another couple to go with you, you could probably hire a taxi and travel that way, then book with Kim for the same price as an organised tour. If you have an English speaking driver, you will learn more about the country that way.

http://www.whalesamana.com/ for Kim's contact.

After that, my personal recommendation from the list already given is the Monster Truck.

Thanks for the tips.

I was thinking that pre-booking tours or at least finding an appropriate tour guide would be more important than it seems to be from this information. I guess I'll just randomly choose a company when I get there?

Iguana Mama in Cabarete has a good reputation, according to at least two guidebooks and my own experience.

Not the cheapest, but you tend to get what you pay for.
