Which location ?

HI, have been to Punta Cana before so know that the beach is gorgeous but want to try Puerto Plata as sounds like there is more to do, we will be traveling with three teens(age 14,16and 17), my son loves a great pool and the rest of us like to play in the waves, We usualy stay in 3 to 4 stars don't need fancy but decent enough...hubby and I love to snorkle too .... but most important is to boogie board, where should we stay? Any suggestions? Thanks

1. Re: Which location ?

Also if we stayed in Caberet(still not sure what resorts are there) how far are we to Sosua? Which of the two areas are better? The two resorts that appeal to us are Casa Marina Beach or Celuisma Playa Dorada Not sure of their locations . Any other suggestions appreciated, thanks

Best place for boogie boarding is Cabarete you could try looking at Wyndham Tangerine in Cabarete, best snorkling is Sosua where you have the Casa Marina Beach/Reef resort.

Sosua is just 10 minutes from Puerto Plata airport or Cabarete is roughly a 20 minute transfer.

Viva Wyndham Tangerine.

3. Re: Which location ?

Thanks Angelina, I did check out the Tangerine one, the beach sounds like what we are looking for but the hotel itself doesn't seem to have the same reviews as other 3 star resorts and is more expensive (people seem to like the marina beach in Sosua...so if we leaned towards that one, how close are we to Caberet to go play in the waves? Or do you have other suggestions. the other one is Celuisma playa Dorada, where is that one located and what kind of beach is that?

If you are staying in Sosua then you are a 10 min cab ride ($15) from Cabarete. The Tangerine is nice as it is a 8 min walk along the beach to all the beach side restaruants, shops, bars and clubs. Lots of night life.

Saying that Sosua beach is our favorite in the area but not good for boogie boarding as it is almost flat with no waves or very little shore break. Great beach side restaruants and shops. Good snorkeling from the beach as well.

We live between the two and go to both often.

Bob has answered the first part of your question so I will finish by saying that the Celuisma on Playa Dorada beach is not for boogie boarding, it is also calmer, nice beach but not what you are looking for plus its further away from Cabarete, the Playa Dorada Complex where the Celuisma is situated is roughly about 30/35 minutes to Cabarete.

Thank you both, Caberet sounds like the place for us and we'll just go to Sosua for sure to do snorkling....

If you decide to go to Cabarete, consider renting a condo/apartment. Most of the 'good stuff' is in town anyway so there isn't really much benefit to being in a hotel and especially not an AI. With five of you, it may well work out cheaper too unless you get a fantastic deal at the hotel.
