Public Transport

Is there any public transport that runs from ClubHotel Riu Merengue into Puerto Plata please? Taxis seem expensive for two people.

You can get the local transport Gua Gua's (local van/bus) A Gua Gua looks like a run down mini van and is usually full of locals...... you have to go up to the main road though to catch them about 300 metres away, which will take you right into the center of Puerto Plata town. Price a $1 and remember always give the right amount as the will never have change for gringos...lol

Angie is correct. You will have to cross the main road to get one going in the right direction. it is an experience not to be missed.

Are gua gua's something we could take advantage of to get around town if we are staying at The Tropical at Lifestyles as well?

Kate you can't use gua-guas to get "around town" but you can use them to get to town. Again you will need to hike up to the main road, cross the street and you are set.

Fare should be 30 pesos but they may charge you 40.

Jen from the Riu complex it will probably be 40 pesos.

That is a relative question.

Safe as far as your personal safety....YES

Safe as to road worthiness ....maybe

Safe as to drivers....maybe

Any transportation here has a bit of a safety issue but we all learn to live with it.
