What's new at Lifestyles?

A couple regulars here have been to Lifestyles in the past few weeks I'm wondering what you found there.

Is everything about as it was last year or are there changes, if things have changed are the changes for the better or have they made it worse?

Still trying to talk myself into going back next Feb but I need more info before making up my mind.

Hi Birdmand and Kelly (if you read this)

We just got back yeaterday and views are mixed. First of all a few years ago we added a golf cart to our contract, which is fairly basic, but we paid quite a bit extra to have it guaranteed as my husband cannot walk very far. This year when he went to collect it, he was told none available. Even after much discussion, we couldn't get one. That means that "guaranteed" on a Lifestyles contract means "maybe, possibly or no chance." I think the problem was that the carts they have are seriously in need of overhaul. Someone on our flight had 3 carts in 4 days and we saw a number broken down on the resort. We used shuttles most of the time and made friends with Security on the VIP sites who rang for transport. We got to know the drivers and got really good service. However we were in the Presidential Suites and at the bottom of the hill. Nothing nearer the dining room we were told, Not true. I was worried about my husband getting up the hill for breakfast, but he sometimes had a lift fron one of the porters in a golf cart. Speaking to others, including shareholders, there are many deficiencies. We had an appt with CS on our 2nd day and it was a waste of time. We were told we had signed a contract..... I pointed out that I must be one of the few who has read every word and know exactly what we signed and I wondered if Lifestyles had read the contract. Waste of time.

The first week the resort wasn't full but last weekend it was packed. I expected this as I had done some research. Nevertheless we had no trouble getting reservations for meals. Skewers is now for shareholders only which was a disappointment, but we were happy with whatt we got. Foodwise, our first meal at Jazz was OK but the pumpkin pie not very good. Second time, the meal wasn't up to standard and we noticed some plates being sent back. Not good for one of the top alacartes. Service was very patchy. Gourmet and Blue Lagoon were good and we know most of the staff in both and we have never had a problem there. They even give us our favourite table. We tried El Pilon this year for the first time and found it very good.

What we found was there were lots of people wearing black bands, but not many with the shareholders bands. There were plenty of big parties with perhaps 2 shareholders and about 10 or 12 guests. As the newer large villas become available, this will increase. Much of the resort is like a building site and they are really trying to sell the Villa Park villas and suites. This will presumably become the next level of membership.

Overall, we had a good time but lack of golf cart spoilt it a bit. As a member I expected better and I did doubt what both you and Kelly said, so for that I apologise. I think the resort has become far too big and unless Lifestyles either stops getting new members - very unlikely - or sorting out the current problems, I don't see how the resort caqn prosper. Will we go again? Probably, but I will be keeping an eye on further reviews from members and hope to see improvements.

Saw the Lifestyles jet at POP airport. No wonder the packages are so expensive!!

One of the problems here is that Shareholders can offer most of their benefits to their rental guests. How could the resort allow non members to go to member only areas when we all paid allot of $$ for these benefits. I had my own sister..my sister!! book through a Shareholder because she was able to get a much cheaper All-Inclusive rate…that hurt but I can't blame my sister for wanting such a savings. Why do these non members get Gold bracelets? LHVC just posted that Serenity Beach won the best beach at the resort..come on..that's not going to be the case with non member taking it over by having Gold Bracelets.

The resorts plan is to give people a taste of the good life so they will buy a membership. I understand marketing but this is getting out of control and we will be the ones to suffer. Come on Lifestyle you are getting allot of members upset. I want Lifestyle to be my home away from home..that is why I upgrade my membership 3 times. I will never become a Shareholder..why? because my membership was the highest and they said it would never go higher and now there is Shareholder. Shareholders out there trust me you will be in the same place as me soon and posting the same words as I have.

All in all I love this place but I am uncertain of it's future!! Going in July..can't wait!!

Thanks for the updates,

Kinda what I expected but sadly not what I had hoped for.

We fell in love with he place 5 years ago & started falling out of love with it 2 years ago, it is said nothing lasts forever but this is one I wish would have.

Guess I'll plan our Feb vacation someplace other than Lifestyles.

Sefton - I am sorry that, unfortunately, you had to see for yourself. I agree with Birdman - we fell IN LOVE with this place a few years back, but we've picked up our broken hearts and moved on. Not even planning a trip there this year. Not even toying with the idea. Not even a consideration. We're going to Sandals in Jamaica, I believe. But, it is sad because we did love the place so, so much. Very unfortunate.

Sefton,

You mentioned a lot of people wearing the black bands which were the shareholder bands a couple years ago, what are the shareholders wearing now?

The parties with shareholders & their guests will get bigger & more frequent, renting their weeks & selling beneficiary contracts was a great come on for the resort to sell the shareholder contracts but will cost the average owner in the end.

Getting from the west coast of the U.S. was a huge hassle but worth it at one point, like Kelly, I think now that the luster is gone we will be vacationing elsewhere.

Another try. I did a reply and by connection reset and I lost the lot.

It seems there are shareholder bands which are black with a silver metal insert. Accompanying guests have a wider black band withe an oval printed on it. Many of the parties had only one or 2 shareholders and about 12-14 guests. There were many more of these larger parties than usual but I suppose that will continue. Some shareholdewrs we spoke to are annoyed that so many shares have been sold and feel it devalues what they bought. One couple were told that only 80 shares would be sold. We were told much the same when we spoke about it, it was to be a business package and very exclusive. Mind you, we were also told similar about the Platinum package when that was introduced. At the beginning we were sold a resort that was to be developed over 10 years into a super luxury, exclusive resort for members. What did we get? For the first 3 - 4 years, Lifestyles couldn't sell may packages, in fact we joined at JS level and 2 years later were told that if we upgraded to villa, our weekly rental fee would be reduced by $200.

I believe it was the introduction of unlimited weeks packages that started the ball rolling as the idea was for members to sell weeks and the guests would like what they saw and buy membership. It seemed to work better than they thought. However, people realised that by booking through a member, you could get all the benefits of membership without the payment upfront. Lifestyles started to restrict what members could offer, but I think it should be a taster so that if you want the benefits, you pay for membership. Even blue bands are generous.

Regarding the jet. Lifestyles have been showing a jet on their promotional film for a few years, but this looks newer and bigger. The logo is discreet and not so in your face as usual for them. I assume that is is used by managers and staff travelling regularly to Punta Cana However, when I saw it, I thought it was waiting to bring us back to the UK!!

Head just about getting back into gear. There is a new building going up opposite the Royal Suites. Thought this was to be the new casino. Seems Lifestyles have dropped this idea and the newbuild is going to be duty free shops.
