The best would be to get a taxi. The public transportation is not the greatest here.

Or to hire a car.

Roads on that route are not in very good condition so do get a jeep type preferrable

You can go on public transport but if you don´t speak Spanish and not use to move around can be disorientated.

We are spending the night in Hato Mayor so we will probably rent a car.

Just a note, the roads are not marked too well and also Dominicans do not use maps, so if you ask them for directions (Spanish only), don't show them a map.

We are familiar with the area as we go to Hato Mayor every year on a mission trip with Meeting God in Missions. We just have never driven ourselves which makes me nervous.

Well In my experience in not a high speed road as there is lack on maintance so drivers cannot speed but you need to watch out the road for holes.

If you know the area you can take the public transport too sure you will get by.

Where would you be travelling from?

You will need to get off San Pedro de MArocis by the main junction where the police station is to renew passports

In that juction a bit forward the cross road you will find the guagua to Hato Mayor

So if you go on public transport you will need to get to the main road and wait for a guagua to go to San Pedro and follow the above instructions.

As you come from the resort you need to turn left. If you drive you do not need to enter San Pedro city. At the motorway which sourround the city there is a junction not very well signed and you will need to turn right to Hato Mayor. There is no traffic lights and its is a noticeable so watch out for it!!
