We are traveling to the Dreams Palm Beach next week! We were wondering if it is ok to take Brittish pounds and exchange it into there local currency when we arrive?

At the resort you will get a poor rate of exchange. Your best bet is to bring some USD as you will need $10 each to enter and $20 each to leave (except BA) and USD are easy to use in and around the resort. If you are planning to go out and about away from the resort you can change BPS or USD into RD at any Bank, money store or via an ATM.

$US for tourist card and departure tax then GBP to exchange into pesos. Do Not exchange GBP TO $US then to Pesos as you lose too much money on exchanging money twice.

I only take $US for getting in and out of the DR and pesos for everything else..............$US10 for your Tourist Card (entry ) per person and $US20 Departure Tax per person

I usually take a little currency in pesos to just tide me over than use ATM's as they only give out pesos and at a good rate, but do inform your bank of the dates you are in the Dom. Rep as they will block your card for fraudulent use. But you can take GBP and just change them in the exchange cambios much better rates than in your resort.

If it is an official bank, the exchange rate should be the official rate like at any bigger bank. The exchange places have much lower rate than banks. As Angie said, you can you ATM to get cash, you will get pesos only. Just make sure to talk to your bank first and let them know you will be using your bank card in Dominican republic. Otherwise they might block it.
