Help!!

I need to pick a resort! My husband and I and a small group of our friends (late 20's and early 30's) are going to the DR in Feb and need some help choosing a resort. Here is what we want:

-good beach and pool w/swimup bar

-good food

-good drinks w/premium alcohol *********

-some nightlife

-king beds

-some good excursions (my husband want to fish)

So basically lots of relaxation with an option for nightlife (doesn't need to be like cancun nightlife!)! I was looking at Sunscape the Beach, The Ocean Blue Golf and Beach resort, Iberostar Costa Dorada or the Barcelo Punta Cana...we'd do anything really! Please help!!!! Thanks in advance!

this resort isn't on your list, but from one mainer to another, look at the Majestic. I have been there and it is fabulous! Matter of fact, we considered going to another resort to try something different, but decided to go back to the Majestic. It has everything you are looking for and deserves serious consideration. Of the others you listed I would choose sunscape, but I don't think the beach is as "tropical" as that at the Majestic. Good luck with your search, you will find lots of help in this forum.

Some of the resorts you listed in your thread are in the Punta Cana area...no need to apologize! Things are not that "strict"...keep asking your questions.

Sunscape The Beach (STB) will meet your needs.

Beach - clean, not crowded with guests from other resorts, drink service on the beach, and loungers located in the sun and under palapas. There are areas in the water that are wavy for boogie boarding and calmer for swimming and snorkeling. There is a trampoline in the water to jump on.

Food - There are many a la carte restaurants (Mexican, Italian, Japanese/Chinese, seafood, steakhouse, and adults-only fine dining restaurant service steak, chicken, and pasta) and 1 buffet restaurant. Reservations are not necessary for the restaurants...put your name on a list...given a pager...go have a drink or 2...will page you when a table is available...got to love that! The food is good!

Drinks - premium international liquor is available...just ask for it. The beer is local...Presidente (husband likes it) and Bohemia (described as tasting like Sam Adams). Make sure you try Brugal (local rum)...pretty good. Local liquor will be put in your drinks unless you ask for a specific brand.

Pool - stretches throughout the resort. The swim-up bar is HUGE! There are other bars near the pool, along with drink service.

Entertainment Team - will keep you busy from early morning to way past midnight...if you choose. They are a great group of people. Evening entertainment consists of a show in the evening, Casino, Disco, Piano/Sax duo, etc. You can participate or just relax...entertainment team is not pushy.

Beds - King beds are available...just request them.

Excursions - Many excursions can be arranged from the resort. I will tell you that STB is in a somewhat isolated location...60 minutes from the airport. So, the excursions may take a while to get to. We love the location of STB for the privacy and the fact that the beach is not overrun by guests from other resorts. Also, wristbands are not required because of the isolated location.

We have stayed at Secrets twice (now called Excellence), Riu Taino, and STB. We are going back to STB in 16 sleeps. Also, in May for a 2-week stay. It really is a wonderful resort.

Hi Brenda...thank you SO much for the info...it sounds like Sunscape the Beach will be a perfect choice for us! I wish I were going soon!! My only concern is that it's secluded. But it sounds like there is plenty to do to keep us occupied if we want to be. We really want to deep sea fish...hopefully that won't be too far away! Thanks again and have a GREAT trip!

Your welcome. There are excursions that are closer...horseback riding, ATV and dune buggy tours, Outback Safari, etc. Once you get to Sunscape The Beach, it will be hard for you to leave...resort is THAT NICE!
