Questions for Punta Cana Princess Repeat vacationers

Hi,

We are looking to book a fall trip to Punta Cana.. we are tossing & turning between 2 resorts, 1 is PCP.

For those who have been to PCP more then once, or have been once and are returning, what is it that you love the most about the resort?

And if there were 2 things you could have changed at the resort, wwhat would they be?

We like to use the gym, spa, and sailboats--- what is the gym like? And the equipment- it is it fairly decent or outdated? Same w/ sailboats, what type- sunfish or hobie? and condition of? Spa- is it quite and peaceful while having a treatment? Other then the treatment room(s) what else does the spa offer? steam shower? sauna? locker room w/ showers?

And any inside scoop about the platnimum/VIP package wouldbe helpful. I see the inclusions on the website, but I would like to hear first hand if it worth the extra $$$.

Thanks,

Mare

Good Morning Mare,

We travel to the Princess twice a year in July & December.

What we love most about the resort is that it is spotlessly clean, quiet, compact, the suites are spacious (oh and everyone gets a suite), reasonably priced, 12 choices of restaurants, large comfy beach beds, centrally located to shopping and town, disco, casino (the largest in the area), awesome wonderful friendly staff, privileges to the sister resort next door and the best beach in Punta Cana...

The gym is little to non existent in my opinion. But we don't go on vacation to work out so it's cool with us.

There are no sail boats in any resort as sailing would be rather dangerous. The hobby cats are awesome, but you'll need to know how to handle them too out there at sea.

The spa, one of my favorite places, is great and offers a wide variety of treatments and pleasures.

Everyone gets a suite with their package. And there are no better buildings or guarantees about placement with an upgrade. People get a bit confused about that. And also building # 5 is overrated and not the "best" in my opinion. Platinum & Regency are an identical package termed differently by travel agents.. VIP will be your upgrade. We always upgrade if only for use of those exclusive beach beds...

Good Luck !

Peace

We were at the PCP in June last year and return in three weeks.

The big plus point for us, apart from the fabulous beach and its compact size, is the fact that it is adults only.

The only thing I would change centres on the lobby in the evening. We disliked the "shows" put on by the animation staff. Don't get me wrong, they were doing their best but we found it unsophisticated and would have much preferred something like a piano being played or suchlike. Also, there was a lack of comfortable seating in the lobby in the evening. We like to play cards and sometimes it was not possible to find a table to play at. We went several times to the sister hotel which has a huge lobby and as most of the guests were watching the show in the theatre, there was plenty of seating.

This is obviously a personal point of view and I dare say some people would love the little performances put on by the animation staff.

I went to the PCP in November and the sister resort 3 other times. I would return to the PCP for the total relaxation and peace but the option for more, as it says in my review.

the PCP is very quiet, small and personal but if you feel like having more "action" it is not far away. Next door at the Caribe Princess.

The shows were very lame in my opinion, I thought it was because of the rainy evenings we had in November but have since heard that it is much the same when nicer. But next door was not far away.

I did not like the nightly snack place. I liked better a mini buffet instead of an menu type snack. but that is a very personal choice. we just walked the beach next door 3 minutes and we had their nightly buffet.

Loved the beach beds - they need more. There should never - never be a towel game - the resort is gaining in popularity and price and should therefor reflect a more civilized atmosphere, instead of being reduced to getting up early to get a spot.

Very well priced for the beauty of the resort and the amenitities.

There was a reservation policy for the a la carte restaurants when I went in November and soon after they started having a no reservation policy - I wonder if I will find it to be a disadvantage when I return?

oh forgot - Hobie Cats were available and seemed to be in fine condition, but you have to pay for a mini course unless you have an aptitude for the boats.

I liked getting a massage in the spa because it looks and feels more professional than the ones near the beach in the Mini spa. The mini-spa is a gated area with a cold spa, saunas, and massage areas.

The gym is in the spa building (cut through the spa building when it is open and voila you are at the sister resort.) I don't know about the condition and type of equipment but there is a trainer in there. Sister used it and did not complain.

vip worth it for the premium alcohol and the beach beds alone.

The only thing I would really like to see, however the price would later reflect it ( so how much do I need it) is a higher level of luxury. It is not near the newer resorts like Eden or Majestic. but still very nice.

oh and beach service would not be a costly upgrade for the resort to implement and would help set it apart from the others.

A nice touch

dropus!

Thanks for you input!!

I was not aware that there was a mini-spa too? Personally I like total quiet... being on/near the beach and hearing people would not be relaxing for me. I also don;t like spa's where people are slamming doors and talking in hallways while you are getting massage.

How does one prove that you are a good sailor and can handle a Hobie? I don;t have a problem w/ the course, just curious why not have everyone take it? Can't be that big of a deal.

We are not ones for night life per say. Dinner is our evening entertainment, if we walk by some place that is having show/music we may stop for a bit, but we travel with friends and are just as happy hanging out on each others patios. Sadly we don;t get to do that much at home, so for a week we do it as much as possible!

But I know what you mean, because on other trips I do like something to look forward to in the evening.

I am sure I will have more questions once we book and get closer to our travel dates.

Thanks again for answering my questions.

We just returned from our first stay at the PCP. We were a party of 8, and we all said that we would return. It was small, clean, and like others said, you can go to the sister resorts for more nightlife, if wanted.

The only thing I would change is the entertainment in the afternoon at the pool. We would just as soon lay in the sun and relax with soft music and either read a book or sleep.

Hands down, adults only is the way to go.

I booked my package to PCP with Spirit Airlines. They only offer Platinum Suite which states that it comes with a VIP bracelet, turndown service, etc. Is the upgrade something that is strictly offered when we get to the hotel or is this the VIP package. I would like th0se beach beds. Also what is the best building and floor?

Thanks for the input,

Carol
