Grand Palladium Palace, Catalonia, Iberostar HELP

HI,

I am planning a trip for Nov 30 to Dec 6th or 7th that is a mix of fun and relaxing with a great beach. Myself and my hubby both 30 years old and another couple early to mid 20's and possible my brother in law,(prob on his own- 22 years old) would be going.

I have fouund some hotel deals in the under $150 per night range. So our "Ideal " deal resort would have:

1- a great white sand beach, not too much sea weed decent clarity of water not crazy waves

2-free snorkling or other watersports, plus daily beach or pool fun things

3- some quiet areas for when we want to chill

4- a swim up pool bar and/or beach bar

5- hot tub with nice people from around the world to visit and chat

6- A few a la cartes options for when we want some romantic nights with good food, and good food in general

7- a somewhat fun disco or pub for us all to get together and visit and dance or listen to music

8- a few decent evening entertainment shows

9- proximity to either one cool excurition such as fishing,( or even fishing off a pier) or a casino (they like texas hold'em)

10- Big enough that we don't have to go on excursions all the time to be entertained but maybe not so big that I can't find the people I came with ...

So I have found some good deals ranging from under $100 per night to under $150 per night. Less expensive is better for me right now BUT I don't want to get sick from the food or have no entertainment!

--Choices-- (Based on finding deals for our week)

1- Catalonia Bavaro Beach , Casino and Golf- is smack in the middle of our price range.

2-Grand Palladium Palace (is a bit less)

3-Iberostar Punta Cana (is a bit more)

4- Hotel Carabella (great deal)

5-VIK or LTI ( almost as good a deal)

6- IFA Villas Bavaro ( In the best 2 price wise, but do they close the pools early??)

Sorry this is so long but you guys always ask for more details :-)

I would LOVE if you could tell me your top 2 or even 3 for our wanting some fun and some relaxation. And why that resort is the best in your opinion! Muchas Gracias!!

I can tell you one thing--I just returned from a wonderful vacation @ Grand palladium. Carabella resort is right next to it. You just can't compare props like palladium or iberostar to carabella (in any way, shape or form). based on your requirements, you DO NOT want to stay at carabella.

marlonsams didn't you say that you got bitten by bugs over there?

Hey did you want to include airfare in that? I have a 5 star here in Jamaica at $1100 leaving for Sat. Nov. 30th which is unheard of dirt cheap for a Jamaican 5 star.

The Gran Bahia Principe !!! 5 star! I think there's be quite a bit to do and would suit your age group with lots of socializing to be had with other English speaking guests.

Take a look and then compare:

For DR, I would recommend Catalonia Bavaro Beach from what I here.

I would not go to IFA or VIK.

MD, yes I did say that I was bitten at GPPC...so what?...

I just spoke to a neighbor of mine (who's NYPD cop) and he told me of recent murder in NY. Does it mean no tourist should come to NY????? Come on.

Happy.........last year we stayed at the grand palladium bavaro.......we stayed in a ground floor junior suite, has a small patio outside, large room, big jacuzzi tub, mini fridge was restocked daily, great white beach with really soft sand(I even brought some home with me)3 beach bars, beach grill at lunch time, alwasy lots to do on the beach, kayaks, hobie cats, para sailing.Nice swim up bar. We only did the buffets, food was very good and we heard that the alcarte restraunts were very good.there is a disco but we never went, the lobby bar has entertainmnt every night, and hemmyways bar is very nice for just chatting or playing cards, etc.they have a enterainment show every night.there is a casino I believe in the pinta cana section. we only did two excursions, the bavaro safaria, you ride in a open truck,go up into the mountains, visit a coffee plantation, stop for a taste of sugar cane,go to a ranch, have lunch there, horseback ride if you wish,go for a swim, then back to the hotel, the other one was swimming with the sharks and stingrays, interesting, then you stop for drinks at a sand bar.well hope that helped a bit.

Great feed back so far. It sounds like Grand Palladium Palace and Catalonia are both good options.

Does one have a better beach or nightlife than the other??

And Mike we would consider Jamaica if it was at least 3 1/2 star, in our price range and on a good beach, BUT we went to Ocho Rios last year so my hubby would like somewhere different but even a diff area of Jamaica would be good where did you find your deal I will check it out, can't hurt.

Hi,

I would strongly recommend the Palladiums and I would definitely stay in the Bavaro section. We have been to this resort 10 times already & going back yet again in December.

It is said that it stands on the best beach in the area, it is spectacular.

The grounds are truly stunning, we have seen weddings here & they are beautiful.

All the restaurants & A la Cartes with the exception of the Arricife are fully air conditioned & so is the 24 hour Sports Bar & Hemmingways which is the best cocktail bar on the whole complex with premium international drinks including Champagne by the glass.

The food is great & we have never had any tummy problems in all our visits.Plenty of fresh seafood inc prawns, salmon fresh & smoked.

The staff are also so friendly, we just love this resort.

Push the boat out have a junior suite or romance suite well worth the extra money.

Hope this helps,

Peter.
