Take lots of munchies - they cost a fortune in the DR and AI don't usually include them.

Shop around for the best prices for excursions. Your tour operator will try and tell you not to do this but there are very reputable firms with websites so you can see what you fancy. Then book it while you are there.

Remember that, off the resorts, whilst people may seem anxious to help they invariably do so to get a tip.

Enjoy your holiday.

Don't bring too many clothes!!

You will be wearing swimsuits during the day with a cover up and dinner attire. No need for 7 pairs of shorts-you won't wear them.

If you have skin that burns easily, a rash guard shirt will help protect it, especially your back and parts that you may miss with the sunscreen, like your armpits. Sunburned armpits hurt!!!

Not researching the area that you are going to and then complaining about it!

Do your homework first, before you travel!

Sunscreen and more sunscreen (very expensive there), mozzie repellant (they love me) and afterbite. And last, but not least, treating the staff with respect, they do their utmost to make you happy while you are on holiday and they are wonderful people.

Leaving open liquid or food in your room...attracts little ants.

Not knowing the operating times of the buffets. If you are a late sleeper, you may miss breakfast and have to wait for the lunch time.

Not knowing the layout of the resort, where a la cartes, bars or bathrooms are located.

Do not drink the tap water in the bathrooms or rinse your mouth and toothbrush with it.
