Majestic Elegance is Still Heaven--Live

This is our fourth day at Majestic Elegance. We were here in April and have noticed some changes. The biggest is that the Spa finally opened 5 days ago, although I think the "official opening" is today.

Since Brugal was just here and gave everyone wonderful summaries, I won´t repeat that recently said. Obviously hubby and I really like it here or we wouldn´t be back so soon. We were surprised, however, at how numerous staff members remembered us and greeted us sooo warmly. I don´t usually drop names here, but when Maxima (Ella pool bar) saw us, she came running from behind the bar and gave us both big hugs. Normally we´re not the touchy, feely type, but she seemed so genuine. We really felt like we were back "home away from home". Several others did similarly, without the hugging.

We´re here for two weeks. Any questions and I´ll be glad to field them. We also took a stroll over to the Colonial. (We stayed there

last Nov.)

Occupancy is only about 60% which definately changes some of the way things operate. Club level, however, is pretty much full.

I contacted Omaira in regard to room request before we left. Not only did we get exactly what we wanted, she called the room to make sure we were pleased. The service could not be better here. It is most certainly not always perfect, but everyone tries very hard.

Gotta go before hubby gets jealous and wonders who I´m writing to.

The weather is hot, but by the sea is a lovely breeze. If you go inland just a little, i.e. the lobby, it is hot. There´s been no rain during the day for the four days we´ve been here. We think it rained during the night last night, because today is a little less hot and more breezy.

We are headed there on Wednesday, Elegance Club, for 7 days. Will they have Turkey on Thanksgiving.....or maybe we won't miss it :) Happy to hear you are enjoying it.

Tonight is Caribbean Night in the courtyard outside the main lobby and the show is a circus act. There are guys on stilts walking throughout the courtyard and lower lobby bar to entice all to the show. The only enticement needed is because it is hot. It showered briefly when we were dressing for dinner, but you´d never know it. We walked down to the club lounge by the sea for some air conditioning or sea breezes. Both are welcomed. We´re on our way to the show and then the casino. At Brugal´s suggestion, we tried the buffet for dinner tonight. Although we´ve been here before, we´ve never gone to the buffet for dinner. We tried the goat and, of course, the suckling pig. Don´t think we´ll become regular goat eaters. Hubby LOVED the gorgeously ripe avocados tonight. I think he had three or four. The attentive service in the buffet for dinner was surprising, even for here.

I´m checking on whether there will be turkey for Thanksgiving, but we don´t think we care one way or the other. If I find out in advance, I´ll let you know.

Odd note, one of the bartenders asked if she could have a Marlboro Ultra Light, seeing the pack. They can´t get them here, not even in Higuey. They can get lights and regulars, but not ultra lights. I gave her the pack and she was very happy. (Please no lectures from anti-smokers).

Brugal--I asked you to leave some Brugal extra viejo for us. They have it at the bar, but since you got two bottles in your room, our room has to suffer with a bottle of Haitian rum. Also different from our last stay, the vodka gift bottle in the room is from Russia.

Oops, show already started, better go.

Are there any specific rooms you would recommend in the elegance club, or does it not really matter?

thanks

Brugal - you must have consumed a lot of that Extra Veijo - I feel bad for Desi. I know that you enjoyed it - also one of my favourites.

Just thought of this - You didn't happen to run over to the Ambar to get more did you ? Now you really have me worried. I just may have to bring my own with me if they are still suffering a shortage. - haha

If I see your photo posted behind the lobby bar, I will know you were there !

The weather continues to be hotsy totsy. Thank goodness for the breezes.

Room preferences are tough to call. It depends what you want. For those who forgot, all rooms are composed of four numbers. The first is the building number. The second number is the floor. The third number is your room location. For example, last time we were here, our room number was 4229. Bulding 4 is on the Ella side. We booked the standard jr. suite, club level. We did it for a reason hoping to be in building 4. The jr suites overlook a vacant lot next door that is full of palm trees and low foliage. The way the coast line meanders, from your balcony you see the foliage and full sea views. Building 5 is on the pool side. Our preference is not to overlook the pool. We like the privacy of the palm trees and sea views. We are again in building 4. We wanted the second floor. We´ve had it both times. Although I don´t have any safety fears here, first floor is more likely to be "less secure". Second floor has better sea views than first floor. First floor has more patio or lawn space. We like to get some exercise in between all the eating and drinking, so we like to walk up/down one flight to/from room. We don´t need to overdo it though by walking up to the third floor. The higher the room number, the closer to the ocean you are, i.e. room 4231 is going to be closer to the beach/ocean than 4229. We don´t like the Elle building rooms. Their balconies look at the back of the Colonial´s balconies.

Tonight is the manager´s cocktail party for club level. Back in April, they held it on the private terrace above the club lounge. They´ve moved it inside to the air conditioning this time.

Don´t worry all, there´s still plenty of Brugal extra viejo at all of the bars.

LOL John. I tried to drink as much as I could but they kept pulling out more bottles than I could handle. You're safe by the way. Never made it to the bars at Ambar :-)
