Filtered Water?

Punta Cana seems like an incredible vacation spot but I'm so hesitant to book a trip. Every time I read a review about people getting sick, it turns me off.

Are there any hotels where people DON'T get sick? I know you aren't supposed to brush your teeth or drink the tap water but how can we know for sure that the restaurants use filtered water?

I'd love some guidance as to where I might NOT get sick. :D

Been there 5 times and stayed at different resorts. Never been sick . The last time we took Dukoral. If you live in Canada you can get it from the pharmacy with no Rx. If you have a medical plan and it covers Dukorol then you need Rx to get your money back. We never drink the water form taps or brush our teeth with the tap water. In the restaurants just ask for bottled water. I am sure they use it any way. I think a lot of the time people over due it with the drinks, sun, food,fruit... and get sick and blame it on the water or the food. Don't let that scare you away from Punta Cana. It is my most favourite place to go Love it there. In 2010 we stayed at the Bahia Ambar, and the Bahia Esmeralda, 2009 we stayed at the Majestic Elegance. We also stayed at the Barcelo Bavaro Carieb, and the used to be LtI ( that one was iffy) all were fine and food was terrific.

We have been to DR 8 times now staying 14 nights each trip and have never got sick

Resorts do everything they can to make sure people do not get sick and IMHO would certainly not cut corners and put their guests at risk

Yes people do get sick but most of time this can be put down to the guests poor hygiene and not the resorts. Guests also infect other guests
