I have just started a few days at the Punta Cana Princess. If you have any questions, let me know and I will see what I can do.
It is a nice compact property. At the early stages of a stay, I enjoy the getting lost part of exploring, but on its own, there are not that many places to get lost! It is a sister to a couple of other Princess hotels opening that up, but I have not yet had the chance to scan them. After what has been a particularly hectic time in my personal life, I arrived yesterday and proceeded to sleep 13 hours last night, waking up at 3 this afternoon. I am willing to assert that the beds are comfortable!
I have been fine with the food, particularly dinner at the a la cartes. I had a filet mignon last night at the Rio Grande TexMex Steak House and Grill which was done to my idea of perfection. It was preceeded with chips and 4 sauces, of which only the guacamole appealed to me but that may be because the guacamole REALLY appealed to me. Tonight we tried the Italian restaurant but arriving at 8.20 meant that it would be a 40 minute wait so we headed to the Mare Nostrum seafood restaurant. Not a bad choice at all in the end since we reconnected with the crazy Puerto Ricans we spent the afternoon in the pool with who arrived shortly after we did. Had a seafood casserole for an appetizer followed by a grilled lobster as entree. For a small, less than 5 star resort serving only non premium alcohol (you pay for the premiums and room service), to have a lobster on the regular menu was a lovely surprise. My afternoon breakfast at the 24 snacks at Mare Nostrum on the beach proved Day 2 of mid day snack disappointment though. Yesterday, when we arrived they only offered nachos. Not at all what we wanted so we left still wanting something. Today, there were still a number of people looking for food at 3.30 but the chicken dish was empty and we were told that there would be no more. It ended up that enough people kicked up a stink so they decided to bring more out, and they freshened the fries and other items too which were all sitting there cold. I think that when you are served a baked potato in an a la carte with a lump of butter on it that never melts, the food is probably cold. Cold food would be my first complaint about what I have seen. I told somebody recently that I thought cold food was unforgiveable at the hotel restaurants. I still have to be convinced as to why served menu items and buffet fare cannot be kept hot if they are supposed to be served that way.
The room is lovely (junior suite style with a separate living room a couple of steps down from the bed area) and the grounds are lush as you would expect. Not a lot of perks, but it has not been a problem yet.
Things are not overly convenient if beyond the dimensions of this hotel itself. Then if you have to go away from the area, like to the main theatre for the complex at the sister resort, the front desk is, very surprisingly, unable to provide directions. There is a shuttle to the disco which is there as well, but you cannot walk there yourself with their help. I find that a bit on the preposterous side. Why do they leave you to discover it on your own without a little guidance. (I cannot find question marks or quotation marks on this Spanish keyboard.) There is no map available, nor oral instructions. There is a small show in the lobby of the Punta Cana Princess which is good enough for entertainment and winding down, and with this small a group, it ends up that a day and a half later, you keep running into the same people over and over again, so you have friends in the Ideal Couple show on night 2. The adults only thing is interesting. The shows are not any bawdier, but there is an absence of small bodies.
As I said, I woke up super late today so did not discover a lot new, though there is a refreshing fountain and pond full of turtles beside the lobby which was a delightful find.
AND...just for the fun of it, I checked the weather forecast for PC before I left home. Thunder showers predicted for the whole time I was to be here. Not a drop seen yet. Try not to worry if headed this way soon. It may yet happen since it is not unheard of at this time, but there is nothing you can do about it and it may NOT happen. They already had their unrepresentative downpours for the season, so may cruise for a while...or may not.
It is a good time here if you want peace and quiet and adult fun, with a beautiful tame beach.
