Just back from Ocean Sands - golfed at White Sands and...

Just got back from Ocean Sands - large clean, well maintained rooms, stocked daily with water and pop, two big pools, no trouble with loungers at the pool or beach (no matter what time of day), BEAUTIFUL beach (no sea weed problems) very clean property, great lounge music in the lobby at night, fun disco, no problems with pushy sales people at all,...only downside was the food...though you could always find something to eat. Challenging White Sands Golf course is two minutes away but is still only 9 holes no matter what you may have read. Overall a great resort - any questions??

Hi we are going next week to the Majestic Colonial and are looking for golf prices. What did you pay for the Cocotail course and white sands? We will be near the punta cana P.Dye course, did you hear anything about that course?

Thanks for your help

Wondering if any of the rooms have an ocean view?

Are there any nights that vendors come in? On what nights?

Are the bars pretty convenient to the pools/beach? Some places are so far away!

Hi straller-

My husband and I are planning a trip to PC in March and we are looking for a romantic hotel. Do you think Ocean Blue fits the bill.

We were also hoping to play golf. What did you pay to play? Is White Sands over looking the ocean?

You said you stayed @ the Ocean Sands, but do you know what rooms @ the Ocean Blue are closet if not on the beach?

How did you dress for dinner? Are the dress codes strict? Thank you for your help! :)

OK, golf first...my husband and son golfed at White Sands twice..they were picked up at the room, and driven to the course a few minutes outside the hotel gates...paid $50.00US for each including cart. They said it was a more challenging course than Cocotal, which was approx 10 minute drive from the hotel...they paid $150US pp for hotel pick-up/return, golf and cart; though they enjoyed their game they were slowed down by some very slow golfers and said there should have been a marshall around...they preferred the White Sands course, even though it was 9 holes...met some people at the hotel who had paid in advance thinking it was 18 holes - they haven't really started developing the other 9.

We were at the Sands, which is a mirror image of the Ocean Blue...we were in Villa 9, Villa 10 was closest to the beach but there was a surcharge...I don't think it's worth it to pay. We were just a few minutes walk to the beach and had requested a pool vs garden view.

There are two bars at the beach and one is part of the beach restaurant where you can have lunch (and dinner with reservations at night)...it's right on the beach and you can go in bare foot with your beach cover up. If you prefer the pool there are two swim up bars in the very large pool which close around 6 or 7. In the evening the lobby bar, casino, disco (after 11:00pm), theatre bar until 11:00pm) and sports bar (until 6:00am)are available. Red/white wine are served for dinner at all the restaurants, though neither was very good - Mike's cafe serves good expresso, cappucino etc in the evening as does the lobby bar which had some good sax music each evening. They do bring in vendors once each week, towards the end of the week, but just left of the property as you face the ocean there are a lot of small huts to buy souvenir tshirts etc...BUT remember to barter and start with at least two thirds less than the offer...never pay more than half of the initial asking price!

I hope I've covered all the questions...let me know if you have any more!

We'll be staying at the Ocean Blue in March. How much was it to golf 9 holes. Is there an age restriction? I have a 10 year old that is fairly good. Did you upgrade your room at all? If so, was it worth it?

My guys bring their own clubs so don't know the cost and/or availabillity of rentals. 9 holes was $50USpp and included a cart - unlike some other courses eg. Puerto Plata you didn't need a caddy. Although the course is new my guys preferred it to the Cocotal course .. I don't know if there was an age restriction, my son is 16 and played well at the course.

Oops, forgot your question about the upgrade...no we didn't upgrade and our rooms were large, clean, quiet and the patio doors locked! The upgraded rooms are close to the "active" pool and may be a bit noisier because of this though you're not in your room much anyway. The upgrades include a separate check-in (I think) but our check in was fast and our rooms ready early.

Thanks Straller for all that great info. Every where I look they say that the 18 holes have been developed! $50/9 holes is cheap! The hotel did quote me something like that. You can get a better rate if you buy a package of 3- 5 rounds! Also for anyone lookingto rent clubs, don't do it! Most courses have them but they are crappy!

I Played Punta Cana resort Club and that cost $135 with pick up and cart. That course as pretty as it is doesn't play well. They have a terrible hybrid form of grass! Forget divots, it's like a Brillo Pad!
