Ocean Blue and Sand?

Thinking of booking this for January 2012. Does anyone have any advice regarding this hotel?

Friendly and helpful staff. Good lobby and pool bars. Very decent pool. Golf course is a pig track. Exercise facilities cramped with poor equipment and ventilation.

Buffet was not spectacular but offered good variety and quality. A la carte restaurants varied from awful to very good. Great little coffee shop.

Beach was good but little shade. Beach bar small but lively. Beverage service non-existent. Beach restaurant (Cana) for lunch had nice setting but average food.

Rooms (deluxe suite) good sized but rather bland though bathrooms roomy and decently appointed. Bed was comfy but not excessively so. Plenty of hot water. Property kept clean.

General vibe was good for family, couples and groups but I would not consider this a romantic getaway. I don't consider the upgrade to Privilege a value though this is subjective to one's tastes.

On a scale of ten, the resort rates a solid 7.5.

My advice would be to get a room in a building near the beach (i.e. bldg #6) Get to the beach or pool early to get a good spot/loungers as quite a few guests play the "towel game". Get to know your bartenders well (tips) - it makes a difference. If there was a particular a la carte restaurant I wanted to dine at, I would make a reservation regardless - hostesses seemed unorganized at best often resulting in long waits. Their Dominican restaurant was awesome.

That was a really balanced assessment of the hotel. We are looking to go to the Punta Cana area as I think there are several golf clubs in that area? Is it the closest golf club to this hotel that is not good?

Do you have any recommendations for other hotels in this area?

Great resort with a good layout. The rooms are a little dated but the resort is a perfect size.

I absolutely loved this resort. The rooms were nice. Balcony overlooked pool and could see the ocean. Pool was wonderful & clean. The staff here went out of their way. Buffet was a little above average. Didnt eat at any sit-downs. The restaurants & casino were in a row, felt like a little town - very nice. Lobby bar was nice with some sort of entertainment in the evening and then when that closed the disco opened. Casino there didnt go in though. A bowling ally. Had a wonderful beach buffet dinner one night with excellent entertainment - dont miss this! Beach was beautiful - lots of chairs & there was shade if you needed it. Rock climbing wall and bungie jumping thing. Little shopping huts 2 minutes away from resort on beach - bargain with them! I have nothing but positive to say about the Ocean Blue - go you won't be sorry!!!

One more thing. No bracelets or reservations for restaurants - which is a huge plus in my book!
